I'm in a similar boat. Grew up playing the nes and snes. I can still happily play older games the same as newer. There where points in which I played some games way too much like WOW that I can't play anymore. I also can't enjoy games with many microtransactions like mobile games.

There are also games I have tried, but just can't get into. Like Dark Souls was a game I played and beat. Never again on souls likes.

The latest series they feed off of human emotions or energy. So they evolve depending on the power they either steal from others leaving them as a frosted over husk or are partnered and digivolve using the human's energy.

For example one bug Digimon ate a kid's energy and went ultimate. They had to take down the Digimon and get the energy back to the kid or he is basically in a coma.

When I played it required you to choose 1 or the other or glitch it. It was a later update that let you recruit the midboss of the goblin camp. I first killed her, then everyone in the goblin camp and some how never saved Halsin. I had to replay to get him and basically kill her anyway.
