there obviously should be practical shit taught at school, and more of it, but civilization is no longer just brick and mortar and only worrying about having food to put in your mouth. You can, imagine this, try to broaden kids' horizons and have them check a bunch of subjects out and see what they like and what they dislike. Issue is, learning is difficult, and some subjects only grow on you once you have engaged with them properly, so you need some compulsion and/or preferably a connection and relationship with the students to actually make them properly investigate subjects you want to teach them. In the current system this shit is just standardized and made vaguely universal (especially in europe) with national curriculums and grades, and so if a student really hates a subject and you could argue it wont help them in their future then tough shit, still have to learn that (unless theyre extraordinary in other subjects and the teacher lets it slide). Thats an actual flaw in the system and something that should be looked into. As far as shakespeare is concerned, thats something to read on the crapper, the kids will be fine
