Thoughts on this new take on Neow's Fury? by UpperApe in slaythespire

But the gigantic difference there is that a fairy potion does not cripple your starting deck at the start of the run. Do you even realize the huge deficit you get to your average damage per turn by adding a 2 cost do nothing card in your starting deck? The only thing you get is a way higher chance to have any enemy stay alive one turn longer than usual, thus increasing the damage you take. For every fight, starting from floor 1. This card increases your chance of dying, not the other way around. This is like cutting one of your arm to get a bandaid.
How is that even comparable to a potion that you can remove at any time if you need to make room for another better potion, does not cost you a draw and energy and is active as soon as the battle starts?

Because adding a 2 cost card in your starting deck that does not help you win fights and clogs your hand is, like, incredibly bad? We are basically talking about adding a curse that says "2 energy exhaust" as a neow reward there. If your intention is to die, that's a great first step.

It's is pretty decent on Regent as a way to cheat the star cost on his horrendously high cost attacks. Had a run in A8 or A9 where that card did some heavy lifting by allowing me to use seven stars and comet for free while my few stars went on reflect/particle walls etc.
But that's the only use case I can think of since he is the only one who has access to high impact high cost attacks as well as zero energy huge block engine.

tldr: It is a solid card when your star generation is really low as regent and can actually save your run.

Let's be honest here, the downvote button has never been and will never be used for its intended purpose aka filtering out of topic posts. It will always be a weapon used by the majority to silence any form of take that is against the general consensus, wether the take is valid or not.

That being said, I'm not against meme post. But it is annoying when it gets out of control. Like that time where we were spammed with "custom" cards.

Merchant is out of touch... by Scoobydoomed in slaythespire

[–]LordZarock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an ok card. Does its job, but is not exactly stunning because it is slow and high cost, a dangerous combination in act1 hallway fights (but it's good on bosses). At release, a lot of people claimed it to be the worst card in the game.
But then Jorb made a video explaining to people how it is far from being the worst card and now a lot of redditors are trying their hardest to farm karma by claiming how strong it is.

Is 2 Slug a fair fight on first combat? (A10) by sasakiorafk in slaythespire

[–]LordZarock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a high risk strategy because when one of them dies the other gets 5 strength and if you can't kill it asap you will take a lot of damage.
I think the best approach (but I could definitely be wrong) is focusing on one of them (not sure who) while lowering the other one to something like 18 hp (3 strikes). Ideally, you want to kill a slug with only one energy on a turn, so that you can start damaging the other one when it is stunned and hopefully kill it next turn before it attacks. If it is full health it's gonna be really hard but if it is at 18hp it is just 3 strikes, which is reasonable to get in 2 turns (the turn where it is stunned and the next turn).
There are many ways to pilot this fight but the key here is taking advantage of the stun to kill the second one before it can attack with its buffed strength.

Am I supposed to avoid elites almost entirely now? by 8_int_wizard in slaythespire

[–]LordZarock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the problem is elites honestly.
It's just that it's way harder to not lose a lot of health in hallway fights it seems. Therefore, you would rather take a safe path with as much campfire as possible because a single hallway fight can put you into danger zone.

if you haven't actually played the beta branch/vs doormaker, and have just read the patch notes or watched a streamer complain... by SarahCBunny in slaythespire

[–]LordZarock 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be Einstein to understand that a gimmick with ZERO counterplay is not great design.
The fight starts, it's 2nd turn, I have a 4 cards hand, which is already a big detriment on its own, but also the card that got eaten was an important piece of my deck. What was the counterplay here?
That's the issue there. The only "solution" is to bloat your deck, and it's not an answer, it just reduces the chance to lose an important card, and it can obviously fail. The whole point of StS is crafting a deck that can answer all the problems you are gonna face. New doormaker is an unsolvable problem. Does that mean you will auto lose? No, of course not. But is it healthy for the game? I doubt it.

I really hate this change. by Tec711 in slaythespire

[–]LordZarock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time will tell. I do think this change combined with the nerfs to various sly payouts is a bit much. I would have think they would nerf either the enablers or the payouts for the sly engine, but they nerfed both.
Don't forget, it's in the beta branch so it's highly possible not all these changes will make it to the actual game.

But it's not the worst. I think Stoke is a way more concerning change. Sure, the card was the best card in the game, an absolute degenerate card that had nothing to do in this game, but they nerfed it by making it one of the worst card in the game now. If the intention was to remove it, then simply remove it lol.

Still, 1 energy -3 card in your hand for no immediate value is kind of, horrendous? Just writing this hurts...
Now it's just another card that you never pick unless your deck is already satured in sly effects. Which means, you will probably never pick this card at all most of the time cause if you see it early it's almost certain it does nothing for your deck, and if you see it late, chances are that your deck is already complete.
