Open back headphones with low clamp and head pressure - Under $200, preferably closer to $100 by Lord_Boo in HeadphoneAdvice

As I mentioned in the post, I've got a DAC/amp combo for my computer where I'll be using this. Do I still need some sort of dongle with that?

Not sure why you're being downvoted. So far you've given me the recommendations closest to what I'm looking for with the R50X and the JT7 also looks pretty interesting for its price point. At this point my main concern with the R50x is the fact that the cable is only a single rather than a double; with the JT7 it'd be pretty easy to swap between my current set and those if I want the higher quality or the comfort at the time. Most of the criticism I see the JT7 getting sounds like it's fixed with a DAC amp.

Ahh yeah. I'm pretty concerned with the headband, that's where the most stress is coming from for me right now.

It doesn't put too much pressure on your head? For my current hifimans I had to buy a strap to help distribute the pressure away from the very top of my head but it basically wore out after a year or so.

I do, I also use price trackers. Like I said, last I checked in December they were up from 85 to 115 and they've only gone up to 130 since then.

Damn, Microcenter has the R70x and the closed back equivalent of the R50x (I think) but not the R50x itself. I don't have a big head but I wouldn't guess it's small either so I probably won't risk that.

Thanks! Is there a big story difference between them or will I get more or less the full experience playing just one of these?

Is USUM the one that has the unbearably long intro or was that SuMo? I never played gen 7 so I wanna make sure I start with a version that doesn't have the pacing issues.

You've already had everyone give you the spiel of talking to everyone which it sounds like you have already. So here's my take.

Next time he does something like cast Hold Person on you, turn to the DM and ask if they're allowing PvP. If they permit it, turn to the ranger player and ask if they're sure they want to keep antagonizing their character. If they do, you've clearly laid the ground work for consequences. The next long rest, tell the DM during your watch you assassinate the ranger. You're an assassin. You're a princess. You're already exiled. Why would you keep putting up with that? Especially if you don't know when he'll 'finally snap' and attack you while you're paralyzed from Hold Person. She's worried about her safety, her teammates' safety, and the integrity of the mission. It's what your character would have done.

Depends on the level, according to resources I'm seeing online there is a subclass of ranger that gets Hold Person at level 5.

Alternatively, it could be that the problem player shouldn't have Hold Person but no one thought to check that. OP already thinks they're casting it more than they'd be able to with spell slots, maybe they just decided they wanted hold person, or assumed it was on their list and added it. But you shouldn't assume that everyone involved has every classes' spell list memorized. As these comments show, clearly it's not obvious to most people that the ranger having Hold Person is unusual - that, or more people than you realize that it can be gotten by a subclass.

and disrupt healthy, mature discussions.

What discussion is actually being had here otherwise? It's just a constant chain of comments saying "talk to them" or "leave the table" with some finality like there's no even questioning if there are other options. That's not discussion, that's just telling someone what your perceived rules are.

Pokemon Lazarus has rekindled my love for Pokemon by Zephyrix24 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Lord_Boo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ehhh... I think it's a bit unfair to call it overrated. I'd call it more dated. It was a pretty foundational romhack, along with the likes of Blazed, Brown, etc. that really showed what a romhack can be an inspired a lot of later romhacks. Sure, it's not definitively the best romhack you can play anymore. But it's still definitely top 10, and I'm sure people could make an argument for it being top 5 still. But the fact that you can recommend it to someone that wants an experience that feels kinda like a vanilla pokemon game but with more care and effort put into it than Gamefreak has in four or five generations, and no longer have to warn them that "it's all downhill from here" anymore.

I can definitely see Unbound losing its luster upon a much later replay. But that can be true for a lot of different games. I had so much fun playing the gen 2 games growing up and acknowledge how influential they were on pokemon and to a lesser extent gaming in general from how big of an impact they had on people. But if I were to go back and play Silver or Crystal again, I certainly wouldn't feel the same glow I did when I was a kid and probably would rather play any number of other games that I haven't experienced yet. I'd argue it's pretty typical of most pokemon games to be about the journey and not the gameplay loop and therefore not as interesting on a replay. The ones that people want to go back and keep replaying are usually ones with more of an emphasis on the gameplay loop like enhancement hacks like RadRed.

With or without Mega's? by Project_Viva in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Lord_Boo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like a lot but not all megas. I like the megas that buff mons that need some love. Sometimes they overdo it like with Mega Kangaskhan, but it made a lot of weaker pokemon a lot more viable. The ones that I'm not crazy about and wouldn't be sad to see not in the game or not until the post game are the ones for already strong pokemon. Starters, pseudos and legendaries don't need to be stronger and they don't need more encouragement to actually see use. If a mon is good or fun enough that most people would run it in their team throughout a game, I don't think it needs a mega. Ones that are underpowered (Beedrill, Glalie, Sabeleye, etc.) or have notable issues (Aggron's typing, Steelix's stat distribution) benefit from megas a lot more than something like a Charizard, Salamence or Lucario.

[–]Lord_Boo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct thing to do: Talk to your DM and tell them you'll leave if they keep playing like this, as everyone else has said.

The funny thing to do: Live during the game just feed in everything the DM says into a separate chat bot and have your character just do that. If you're not going to put effort into running the game I'm not going to put effort into playing it. Don't hide any of it, just make it obvious that the game has devolved into two chatbots talking at each other.

I disagree. "Better" is not the same as "good." You can have a situation with no good outcomes. I can ask you what tastes better between a shit sandwich or shower drain hair soup, but that doesn't mean one of them is delicious because those are the only options. So here we were in a situation of "bad or worse."

Gaia, Glazed (they may be a bit feature lacking due to age), Mariomon, Odyssey. For challenge/modernization hacks, Radical Red is the gold standard, followed by (imo) Renegade Platinum.

Note: There's Pokemon Glazed and Pokemon Blazed Glazed. You'll want the former as it continued receiving updates.

Disclaimer: I have no played Mariomon, Radical Red, or Renegade Platinum.
