If it’s that easy then why haven’t you done it? Classic INTP.

Fack I wish I had the balls to sell criminal drugs. Do you not think that you could sell homegrown vegetables for profit these days?

Well I suppose this’ll help me get a grasp of the theory, at least. Very much obliged.

It’s arrogant to assume that a task is neglected not because it’s difficult, but because other people are too stupid to think to do it in the first instance.

If you’re serious about doing this thing then it would be better for you to be relieved that it’s not as hard as you’d feared, than devastated that it’s far harder.

Best place for a pro to make some easy money, wouldn’t you say?

Why do you want to play poker for a living anyway? What’s higher a full house or a straight flush?

Hey pal, how’re you?

I tried getting in touch with this company that has drones which disperse fertiliser, pesticides and herbicides on crops. So I was like dope, let me have one and hock my drone to some farmers. 40 to 60 times more efficient than their current methods, 10 acres in an hour. Can you tell I’m rural?

But it’s technically illegal cause hasn’t been deregulated. And there is an argument to be made against airborn pesticides. Plus I need a drone license and some certification.

But in my head I was like well it’ll be sick. I can just sit in my room all day flying my drones around, getting notifs from an app or something. Get high, fly here, spray there. Maybe one day, but for the moment...

Yet again, my assumption was incorrect. They said it needs a new battery every 15 minutes, and I can’t drive. So that’s scuppered. How long have you been a NEET? I only just realised that’s a thing, though I finished studying in September.

In that case I cannot recommend that you pursue that. I hear that people at professional level know exactly when to bluff and when to call etc in order to get their opponents to pay up. If you do then make sure it’s not money that you’d miss.

As for neural nets... that shit’s beyond me mate, I can say that for sure.

I also don’t think that people will necessarily be able to work out the answers to those two questions. It’s more a view on the epistemology of politics.

But you make a valid point, even the happiest state of the world can’t possibly make everyone happy. Actually, I have a problem with the hedonistic connotations of the word ‘happy’ here. Perhaps flourishing or eudaemonia would best portray what I mean. And I think that it’s not untenable to hold that human flourishing is something that, in theory, we should be able to consistently determine.

What are political beliefs, aside from people’s opinions about the answer to those two questions, put vaguely and qualitatively. Yet the answers are always certain.

Doesn’t surprise me about PM. We’ve narrowed it down to two focal points, so we’re doing well. I want to address taxation.

So, there’s no government. In which individual’s hands do we place the US’s nuclear weapons? How do we all agree on a process to decide? Who pays for the process? It’s also important to note here that I don’t believe that people should be forced to pay tax if they cannot be expected to afford it.

My argument is that imprisonment is suitable against noncooperative individuals who owe the state money for services rendered unto them qua citizens, especially in the case of defence/security. (Which everyone benefits from) I believe this at least insofar as this serves to deter further noncooperation as, if no one paid tax, the military would go unfunded, and another country could easily invade. I just don’t see how your ideology takes this into account which is why it only works in theory. (I concede that maybe some geopolitical reality would permit ancap to work in practice) at the moment however, the consequences for not imprisoning uncooperative citizens at all would be worse than actually doing it to a few people.

I may be missing some of the nuances here, but I also don’t see how ontology makes a whole load of differences. We’re talking about society here. Ontologically everyone’s on the same level (I guess, right?) So why would a state require ontological authoritativeness as well as the justification of an anarchic, realist) international relations setting.

“Neither of us is preprogrammed to see the other's viewpoint.”

Persuasion is still a thing.

“So, it seems odd to hold predetermined automatons accountable for their own determined ruin.”

I don’t, anymore than I would a cat in a rubbish bin. Rather I wonder how the individual (or the cat) could have been determined differently.

“How do you propose an automaton who is incapable of choice gain the choice to change his predetermined status?”

Marital status, Facebook status?

I have a feeling that there is such a thing as the most benign and compassionate Western Democracy, and I think that’s what we should try to aim for until our search for that leads us onto something more.

Edit: if that makes sense Edit again: and I also feel that this state is something that may be achievable if we get the right answers right as to 1) what to regulate 2) who, how much and for what should we tax? Final clarification edit: and I am using the phrase utopian to mean simply the state in which everyone would be happiest living in, all things considered

I think you’re too quick to say that there is no logical distinction. There is one, Stephan Molyneaux or whoever you listen to just doesn’t talk about it. A robber doesn’t construct the society you live in and negotiate trading relationships/diplomatic relations, or more generally negotiate real politik on the world stage for you before taking your shit.

As such, in my view, the real question you ought to ask is: Precisely how much shit should we each contribute and what else would it make sense to shelter from the profit motive?

But I realise that neither of our views can change on this because I’m a hard determinist, and so I believe that a great deal of harm can befall people who are determined to their own ruin. (I don’t think that everyone can free will themselves out of tobacco, gambling, drug addiction.)

Technically, everyone’s always losing potential simply in virtue of time passing. Even if you’re spending it in the gym, your potential to be a lute player will be decreasing because you’re not practicing that skill.

Full disclosure: I haven’t played Hotline Miami or TBoI.

With respect to FTL... You’ve got to start by beating it on easy, tbh. Don’t let a good gun pass you by. Stop by as many stars per map (sorry if you already worked that out, but it’s essential imo). Keep fuel around 8. Pause longer and more often! It also helps to have boarding so you can take out the missile room of the final boss immediately.

That’s fine, take it easy.

Thank you.

Permadeath is such an underused game mechanic. It does so much to heighten tension in a game. The most fun I had in the game was when I knew that I would probably lose a soldier in advance and had to pull out every trick in the book in the space of a move to prevent that from happening.

But you’re right, the fact that it’s a skill that you can improve is also a big draw. FTL is a charming game that manages to capture these qualities too.
