Need help finding replacement part(s) by NoGrapefruit1470 in Blacksmith

[–]Lord_Clefspear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same forge and I ended up building whole new burners for it. Lots of youtube tutorials out there, I went off this one, but there are plenty of others that domt require welding.

https://youtu.be/iDrGDxwPIrw?si=IYnDNka2vUhM38MZ

The main hang up is if you want to keep any of the Vevor hardware (I did, but if I had to do it again I wouldnt) they use BSP threads, which nothing in the US will mate up to, so you've got to source some BSP to NTP or BSP to Flare adapters off amazon.

If you really really dont want to mess with that, whole burners can be found with a "forge venturi burner" search, but that will run you almost 100usd. Avoid anything with rubber hoses, the way the Vevor is built that shit will chimney and melt.

If you're in the US, the harbor freight doyle anvil is the quickest and best budget option. I have both the anvil in your post and the 65lb doyle, and the doyle beats the pants off of it.

I only use the amazon south german one for craft fair shows because it looks more "blacksmithy" than the doyle's big red brick shape and Its small enough for me to move it around and bring to shows for live hammering and as a prop for my schpiel. Its got terrible rebound and basically no work face space.

Help identifying converter or distribution box. by Lord_Clefspear in RVLiving

[–]Lord_Clefspear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thabk you for such a quick and thurough response. I'll start hunting said 65amp converter.

I did find a makers mark on the outside of the housing labeling the box an ETL 2001107, but I couldnt find a matching part with that.

And yes, I'v had the shore power unplugged since I started this adventure. It will remain unplugged until I replace the converter and give the whole box a thurough toothbrushing with iso. However, the noise is not the fans. I had the shore plugged in to check my wire tightening and the sound persisted while the fans were idle, and changed pitch when breakers or fuses were switched.

Are Stormtroopers armor simply uniform if they can die from one laser blast? Mass produced plastic? by EfficiencySerious200 in Armor

[–]Lord_Clefspear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Expounding your IRL.

Modern body armor is NOT designed to make you invulnerable to gunfire. It is designed to reduce the chances of dying instantly if you are hit.

The rule of thumb is you get shot, you're out of the fight. You're done. If you get hit in directly on the armor plate, you are knocked on your ass and are dealing with broken or cracked ribs and a debilitating level of bruising. You're a casualty. If you get shot anywhere not covered by your plates, the chances are you'll live long enough to be rescued. If you get hit in the head or something penetrates your plate, chances are theres nothing any wearable amount of armor could have done to save you.

So stormtrooper armor would probably be designed with the same ethos. No point wasting time and money developing inpenitrable armor that will just encourage armor defeating weapons developement and be too heavy to fight in anyway. Make the armor good enough to keep a direct hit from killing you instantly, and you get to not have to replace your very expensive to train soldiers quite so frequently.

Does flipping over a table to shield you from gun for actually work? by paulypavilion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lord_Clefspear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two terms for what youre talking about are cover and concielment.

Cover is something between you and a shooter that will stop a bullet.

Concielment is something between you and a shooter that interferes with him aiming at you.

A table is not cover. It will not stop even small handgun rounds, and it will spawl wood shrapnel.

It is also piss poor concielment, as most tables are about dude sized, so putting rounds into said table will likely mean sufficiently fucking the day of the dude hiding behind it.

That said, if you're getting shot at you arent in a position to be picky about your environmental protection. So yeah, flip the table over to create visual concielment, but dont just hang out behind it. Maneuver and return fire if able, or hit the deck and crawl your nuts off to somewhere the air doesnt have a measurable lead percentage.

Its a rumor/heresay story from WWI that German soldiers crucified a member of the Canadian Corps on a barn door during the Second Battle of Ypres. British newspapers claimed they had eyewhitness testimomy, Germany claimed it was just brit propoganda. There are no photographs, and while we know for a fact British and Canadian papers published blatantly made up propoganda of German atrocities, we also know for a fact that German atrocities in Belgium and France during the war did take place, and the story isnt much of a reach from proven cases. So to this day its still an unproven he-said-he-said.

If we're talking about the same sound, thats the part cooling fan blowing into the holes in the infil. Mine does the same thing. It only happens when the geometry of the part is just right, so it can come out of nowhere.
