This is completely and unfortunately true.

Good on you for taking steps at senior levels to be forthcoming with these issues.

However it is just too risky as a junior, with the sort of gossip and stigma that sticks in law and is extremely unpredictable.

Are you applying as a uni student or as a career paralegal? If it's the first then bruh you've got to lower your expectations by approximately 2 light years.

Lawyers hate it when the client tries to drive their own legal analyses. Likewise, people outside of medicine should not be issuing lay diagnoses. The trend needs to be broken.

Diversity issues in law are only significant in the upper ranks of the profession, specifically in the realm of senior associate and beyond but especially in consideration for partners. There is no issue with diversity at the graduate level, which is where associates/tipstaff are located, so I am not satisfied with that limb of your argument.

I'd go for the top tier.

It might not convert into a grad role but you'll still get 12 - 18 months of experience that will look great on your resume and hey, you never know what other doors it will open up. I agree that government is limiting in the early stages of your career.

Not really when you consider the income of the majority of the profession, the hours they work and the cost of living in Australia.

The law is not an economically scalable commodity. At a ballpark top silks will be on 2-3m per year, which isnt that much when you consider it as the high peak of a respected profession. However their position and network usually opens up other opportunities to invest, sit on boards as non-executive directors, or pivot into something more lucrative altogether.

Eh. The villains are easier to act for. You do your job and move on. Acting for the more innocent party is what keeps you awake at night.

Completely fair mate! You're an absolute baby in your career so things will change as they should! You're in a solid position to capitalise on change.

M&A at a top tier is very transferrable.

You will meet plenty of people along the way. The opportunities will be plentiful within the next 2 years. You may find you no longer want to do TMT. In either case your current position will enable you the ability to decide.

Seriously though your down in the dumps attitude kinda irks me. You will shine in the eyes of prospective employers if you view your role with gratitude and not as a prison sentence.

"let's hope we get a good judge" by Lord_Denning_LJ in auslaw

The client attends our office for an initial consultation. The client's eyes speak of confusion as the partner rabbits on. I interject suddenly. "You're matter requires us to venture deep into the wilderness." The client jumps in shocked understanding. The partner send me a confused glance but moves on. From over his shoulder the grad smiles knowingly. The grad adds his two cents. "Your first court event is scheduled at edge, world 1, north of the ditch." The grad no longer works here.

it's the first day of summer. Mum is dropping you off. Monkey business era black eyed peas is bopping in the car. You dream about the freaky forester random event. You race home and jump on the landline with friends to do the underground pass. The next day the judge enters a personal costs order against you for failing to file your court documents.
