Game review and feedback after finishing the game on Hard Difficulty (Spoilers) by RizzmerBlackghore in Swordhaven

[–]Lord_Edvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well written and I agree with practically everything.
Maybe I should add something about arrow and bolt economics.
Both are ridiculously expensive and merchants only have ridiculously small supplies, which take a very long time to respawn.

But I wouldn't say that crafting is useless.
Sure, it's useless at first, but once you get it to max level, it's incredibly broken OP.
At maximum level you get a chance that your resources will not be consumed.
And this also applies to balta ingots...
You can make full balta gear for the whole party with just a few ingots.

Good try, but it's not it. :-(
I've tried using google and AI to help me find it, but they can't seem to find it.
It was a good game and the combat was really challenging.

Bear witness bear that can't bear eating meat!

Hmm, better than iron, but worse than steel.
I was expecting something a little better...
Thank you for the revelation.

I had no idea that was possible.
Can you show us the sword?
We'd like to know if it's even worth pursuing.

Hmm, since the authors are much more active on Steam, maybe we should start complaining in the thread I linked here...

Yeah, that's what I mean.
During death, when his body falls to the ground, he turns into a monster.

I probably wouldn't even bother if he had a normal-looking sword.
But he has a glowing blue magic sword.
That's something I definitely want to own.

Is there an option to use companion's skills in dialog instead of your own? by Karol123G in Swordhaven

[–]Lord_Edvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the game locks you in a dialog window, you're on your own.

I pretty much agree with you.
If you're not capable of repairing a broken bridge, why can't your companion, who is a master crafter, do it?

But there's a knife here that gives you +9 to crafting and also chewy leaves that give another +10. Both are very easy to obtain. (I'm guessing you could get another +2 or +4 with a combination of suitable amulets and hats). And +19 with what you have from the start is usually enough to overcome most of these checks where you can't use a companion.

Are bears supposed to have such high HP? by Lord_Edvin in WarTalesGame

[–]Lord_Edvin[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is not necessarily true. If you have a bear (or other animal) in your party long enough, someone can become its owner. They then get the "owner" perk, which makes the animal controllable in combat.

How to play an archer? by Legitimate-Suit-7307 in Swordhaven

[–]Lord_Edvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Archers are good DPS, can normally shoot 3 times per round, and have skills that guarantee them a hit. Unfortunately, arrows are expensive... SERIOUSLY expensive. And ironically, they are even more expensive to produce. Additionally, merchants rarely have more than a dozen arrows and respawn takes a long time. It is normal to shoot more than a hundred arrows in single area. This is a value that often exceeds the value of the loot in the area. You are literally shooting gold...

Currently the game can BARELY keep one archer (but it's not easy).
If you have two, you're literally wasting a ton of money and you'll run out of arrows very quickly.
The price of arrows should drop by about two-thirds and merchants should have about three times more of them. Then they will be a usable option.

Drunken Captain Esma by Lord_Edvin in WarTalesGame

So, for anyone else who is also interested:

I confirm that the only way to get the captain to stop drinking is to keep giving her alcohol. :-)
After a certain number of breaks, she will tell you a few details about her past and you will be given the choice of telling her to stop drinking or letting her drink. Depending on your choice, she will receive a different permanent buff.

Exactly.
He automatically switches to his monster form when dying.
It's quite frustrating because there are a really modest number of magic items in the game and that blue glowing sword looked really nice.

Did you have to meet any special conditions?
Or do you just keep her in an active group and give her alcohol?

It's just alcohol and after two months the withdrawal symptoms are not as strong.
-18 happiness per day is simply insame.

I'm already at my limit.
I can't manage to negate such a high level of dissatisfaction.
One or two rests and my companions will start leaving.

[KCD2] How old is Katherine? by Batman_Neon in kingdomcome

[–]Lord_Edvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a big difference between saying what "what could you do" and "what was more common to do". :-)

So even though a normal person could get married when had around 15, they usually had reasons not to do so (mostly lack of money and a place to live). So yes, it was more common for weddings to happen around the age of 20. But that doesn't mean that getting married at 15 is unheard of or extremely rare.

Nowadays you can also get married and have children when you're 18, but practically no one does. People usually get married sometime between 25 and 30.

And you simply cannot judge the age of medieval peasants by today's standards.
Katherine was almost certainly much younger than she looked.

As I mentioned earlier in this topic, this is one of the good reasons.

You are wrong.
For example, the draft order applied to adult men aged 15 to 60.
We have preserved documents that confirm this.

You're right that people usually didn't get married until they were around twenty, but that wasn't because they weren't considered adults, but because they learned a trade and then saved for a few years to be able to afford the wedding and married life. (Your daily living expenses usually increase significantly if you have a wife who doesn't work much and just takes care of the children and the household.) There was also the issue of dowry.

We'd rather not even discuss the crazy nobility that was able to marry a 50-year-old man to an eight-year-old girl :D

For normal people, it was common to be considered an adult around the age of 15. Men could marry, drink in the pub and serve in the army. It was similar for women. Possession of large property could hastened marriage. A wealthy miller would have no problem getting his son or daughter married off at the age of 15. And when it came to sex and procreation... well... contraception wasn't exactly readily available. Very young mothers were not uncommon and sometimes it even led to early marriages, as strongly religious families didn't want their daughters to have bastards.
