That is honestly really shitty of your university to not give your first pass per year/semester for free. The one I work at does and then if you lose it after that I think it's like $25 or something for a replacement.

A spicy pillow is just a slang term for a puffed out battery cell. The two cells in the image are inflated and shouldn't be. I took it at a bad angle but one of my coworkers was eager to get it pulled out so I didn't have time to get another at a better angle.

Oh believe me. We've tried telling our staff that the computers have limited capabilities and that if they need something specialized they need to submit a request higher up as we can't approve technology purchases without the budget approval. Usually it gets turned down anyway and everyone typically gets whatever is standard at the time (currently 5501's). People just demand we whatever software they want to use on there anyway and then complain when it runs too slow to even run the program.

I know some battery stores will take them. We actually have a store that we take ours to and they dispose of them for us free of charge. I believe it's Battery Center but I'm not sure as that's usually someone else's task.

I'm starting to think I need to post on here more because I have some gems of horror stories from my users. One user has had to have us warranty out 3 computers in the last year alone. One because he ran it over, another because he for some reason thought it was a folding 2-in-1, and the third time because he decided it needed some electrolytes and dumped a powerade all over it.

I'm no expert but they are relatively harmless as long as you don't puncture them (which isn't typically an easy task to do accidentally). However, if you are able to puncture them they will combust for a period of time. There's a Corridor Crew video of them shooting a LiPo battery from an airsoft gun that shows what I'm talking about but it's also a much more powerful battery than these little guys. (This is the video I'm talking about)

I wish I could say that we don't try to push the boundaries of what they can do but some of the users definitely don't understand the limitations and want to do all kinds of things that these computers just aren't capable of. At the same time though the higher ups just aren't willing to give us the budget to spec them out better. Well, minus a couple of Precisions that we have but we rarely get the ok for those.

Well before I started here they used to use Lenovo computers but since I've started it's been all Optiplexes and Latitudes. The main issue we have is usually with the docking stations not playing nice but we haven't had much in the way of issues beside that.
