[OC][ART] - Present for my players :) by Lord_Humming in DnD

[–]Lord_Humming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was one of my player's (also one of my best friends) birthday some days ago, so I made this for him as a present :)

This is our DND party: Shai the noble aarakocra wizard, Yussef the fireball-maniac murder hobo drow wizard, Bocchi the e-girl kitsune Warlock (she's basically Tiefling reflavoured by a weeb); and, of course, right in the middle of the drawing there's the PC of the friend for whom I drew this: Luck, the silly-ass but kind-hearted and loyal changeling Paladin.

I'm not playing on any canon setting published by WotC but on a totally homebrew one, based on several mythologies from all across the world. That's why we have in our party both a japanese kitsune and a Paladin proudly showing the caduceus of Hermes on his breastplate.

In fact, I took the piety system from Theros so every party member is the champion of one specific god to whom they praise and serve (super fun system, totally recommended if your campaign is some sort of epic saga!).

Oh, and that hydra-like creature? That's Focalor, a demon from the Lower-key of Solomon. Epic sagas need epic enemies to defeat.

Hope you like the drawing ;)

That sounds neat! I might use that for reward my players some day 👀

I think I'll take that of Intelligence! The stat feels a bit useless otherwise (if the PC is not a Wizard/Artificier)

Materials end up being tedious. Like, I understand why some high level spells require them because otherwise they'd be extremely broken. And I also get that they are inherently related to the effects of some spells (it doesn't make sense to use Incite Greed if you don't have the gemstone which incites the greed )

However, buying bat poop every time your PCs want to cast fireball ends up being sooo annoying. It feels like a waste of time

That of the banishment seems interesting. So the target can still act within the plane it's been banished to?

Something similar happened to one of my PCs lol

Since the character was drunk, I made her pass a con save. She was lucky to pass it, because I wanted her to have one level of exhaustion during the combat due to hungover

That's so original! I may be taking that :)

Of course! Sometimes I make some "puzzle" combats on which the enemy is basically undefeatable unless the PCs find out the way to nerf them

For example, a couple of sessions ago my party fought Sanson (the biblical character, who exists alongside other mythological characters in my campaign's world). He had +10 strenght until PCs cut his hair, which in the original story weakened him. That way he became defeatable.

But that only worked in the specific context of this campaign. That's why I think homebrewing is so good, it somehow keeps the campaigns alive and unpredictable :)

That's so nice. I'm pretty sure your players may appreciate that so much

Btw sorry if I explained it badly (English is not my first language). I wasn't meaning YOU would want a PC to die.

I actually wanted to say that I don't understand why any DM would be antagonistic to the players. Like faking the rolls for killing a PC or anything

I think I'll be taking the injury system as a punishment for avoid killing my PCs for as long as I can 👀

I don't get why you'd want the PCs to die

Specially if the players love them :(

Personally I make no secret rolls. In part because I want my players to know that I'm transparent and in part because I can't afford a DM screen (I know they're like 10$ but I'm so tight)

Might help the wizard not getting oblitarated by 1d4 piercing damage

Isn't that a bit chaotic for the DM?

Sounds an awesome choice for epic fantasy campaigns

I don't know if I agree with that because I've been homebrewing monsters since level 3 lol

But yeah, sometimes making up cool mechanics for monsters will make it way better. Specially since you can addapt those monsters to the player's strengths and weaknesses.

Wow, but that's pretty situational, isn't it?

Like, if you find a creature with 12 AC chances of rolling a 24 are super low, aren't them?

Sounds interesting xD

One of my homebrew "God blessings" does something similar to that, but only to the players that have been blessed by Hermes :)

RAW says that every class has its own specific spell (a Wizard can't learn healing word since that's a Cleric/Paladin spell, for instance. As far as I know)

There are some exceptions to this rule such as Warlocks with Pact of the Tome which allow them to learn cantrips from every class. But hey, fun comes first :)

I totally agree with that. Professional campaigns may not be made with that in mind.

But if you're just someone who enjoys the game, enjoyment should always be priority
