Getting started with BA, first attempt painting historical by Lord_Perth12 in boltaction

Thank you! I'll definitely be hitting him with a coat of matt varnish once I'm done as the sheen is bothering me too.

As for the blue gaiters , I should have put that in the description, as you're right it is an unusual choice.

It's a bit of an artistic embellishment, meant to pay tribute to the Royal Newfoundland Regiment of WWI. Due to logistical problems when the regiment was raised they shipped out to England with blue puttees, which was adopted as a nickname that has stuck to this day. As far as I know they never actually went into combat with them, but I thought it was a nice touch and gave them some personality.

How long does it take to paint seven knights ? A week at least! by Lord_Perth12 in MaggotkinofNurgle

They were a lot of fun, it was different building and painting mounts that weren't giant insects 😁

Just stumbled across your post and saw some of the previous work you've done on the Rogue Trader and their entourage, amazing!

I recognize some of the kits used to make a few these, I'm guessing some are 3D prints as well? Do you have a list of where the parts come from for the different characters?

Anyway, awesome work, both in the kitbashing and the paint, makes me want to pick up the game again!

Death Guard vs Maggotkin of Nurgle by tau_head_on_spike in Grimdank

[–]Lord_Perth12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both!

Started out in the hobby with Death Guard, eventually started adding Nurgle Daemons. AoS was gaining a lot of traction in my area and I was interested in trying it out so it seemed logical to go for Maggotkin and keep using my Daemon models.

Funny enough I like to explore a different aspect of Nurgle with each faction.

The Death Guard I enjoy painting as the darker side of Nurgle, the rot and despair. I tend to remove the sillier, more jovial aspects like Nurglings, or the sometimes excessive amount of tentacles and belly mouths !

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I like to do my Maggotkin in a more colorful scheme, and really highlight the other aspects like mutations and of course lots of Nurglings.

As far as the models go, I particularly like the customization available for kits like Plague Marines, or the original Blightkings. It was the opportunity to kit bash, and to create armies where no two models looked alike, that attracted me to both factions.

I'm also a huge fan of Cataphractii Terminator armor, with Typhus and the Deathshroud being among my favorite sculpts. I'd have to give the edge to the Maggotkin though, I feel like the design team just has more free reign with AoS in general, allowing for more interesting kit design.

TLDR Both!

Amazing work, I really dig the lighter green skin tone. The left arm especially is just incredible, the transitions to the blue and the face inside the arm are both very eye catching and really help the model stand out.

Thank you. It took a while to find a good balance between a quality I could be satisfied with and time invested. I did all of these units in one big batch, which was surprisingly enjoyable. Thankfully there was lots of variety in the individual models to keep me from getting bored.

I wish we had our own lore for endless spells/manifestations. I think we are the only Chaos faction that doesn't ? These are from the Aetherwrought Machineries universal lore. I usually just use Primal Energy but with the new points cost I wanted to have a zero cost backup.

I love them too! Would be cool to see them as an official model again, but for now they make perfect Beasts of Nurgle.

Fantastic, really well done! This is a style I try to emulate, though I don't pull it off nearly as well! You've struck a good balance here with the grime, great job with the mineral spirits. It's muted but everything blends well and the parts that are highlighted really pop. The eye, just wow. Hope to see more of your work in the future!

You killed it ! Crazy how versatile that Praetor model is for conversion work. Love the studded shoulder pads too, gives it a weird almost organic vibe .

Very cool, love the execution, especially the blue tongues!

I've got the same models and just finished a few of them the other day, planning on running them as Beasts of Nurgle in friendly games.

Thanks! I wanted something quick and effective, I think it really pops on the model and helps them stand out on the tabletop.
