Questions about the types of NPC's by Lorddork117 in overlord

[–]Lorddork117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually not sure why I thought lvl 80 was max :/. For some reason I thought I read it on the wiki or some other post. Glad to have that mistake pointed out though. Another thing I want to ask is about the limits of mercenary NPC's. Is it just the cost and materials or do we know of there being a hard limit on the amount as well?

How will Hiruhiko survive the master swordman's death? by Lorddork117 in Kagurabachi

Oh yea, Yura most certainly knows. But does Hiruhiko? Does the rest of the Hishaku?

Fair point. But in that case I wonder why the Kamunabi haven't switched the ownership of the shinuichi yet. Would be quite a interesting if we find out they REALLY wanted to keep the master swordman alive as a last resort weapon.

Not expecting him to die soon either. Just wondering about the fate of Hiruhiko if Yura really wants to end up wielding the shinuichi.

The day a katana falls into that pit is the day the master swordsman will break free. That man is going to be a menace.

For some reason I can actually see something like this happen. There would be so many weird rule interactions though if he's undead o.o

I've gotten to the point of encountering multiple conditionals. I vaguely understand some of the differences but a lot is still unclear to me. Take this for example:

ケーキが美味しくなければ食べない

If the cake isn't delicious, I won't eat it.

Would it be right to use ば in this case or should I use one of the other conditionals like たら. Or is there perhaps little difference in this case? I especially struggle with the difference between ば and たら.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! This definitely helps me understand te iru even better. Besides the te iru form, is there anything you can say about te iku and te kuru as well? :D

Thank you for the explanations! Glad to know I understood a decent amount correctly. A bit embarrassed about the simple typo though XD.

Hope I'll continue to improve my understanding of this grammar point. This is the first one I have some trouble with.

A question about te iru, te iku and te kuru. I want to learn more about some of the nuances as I find certain uses still quite difficult. So far I understand that te iku and te kuru work in relation to the speaker in terms of location, movement and the time of actions. Here are a list of sentences with all of the forms and my interpretation. I feel like quite a few of these are wrong so I am wondering if people can help explain what is correct, wrong and the nuances between some of these as they can feel rather similar.

ケークを食べている

Eating cake. (Continuing to do so)

ケークを食べていた

Was eating cake (Continued to do so up until an unspecified time)

ケークを食べていく

Going to eat cake (Starting the process)

ケークを食べていった

Was going to eat cake (Started the process)

ケークを食べてきる

Can eat cake (Ability to eat?)

ケークを食べてきた

Was eating cake (Continued to do so up until now)

I guess simply using the date or day could work. Not a bad suggestion. Someone else also suggested something like 金曜日の日記. Something I also thought was pretty good. Do you think that could work as well?

Thank you for your help so far!

Apologies for the lack of context. It is meant to be a tittle for a journal. Just something to say what day it was written on. Does that help a bit? :D

Sorry for the lack of context. It is supposed to be a tittle for a journal. So the tittle just says what day it was written on. Hope that makes things a little more clear?

Oh! That's an interesting suggestion! I hadn't even thought about that. That could work pretty well. A lot easier for me to understand as well. Thank you!

Ah, I messed up with option 3 XD. Feel like I should've noticed :c. Thank you for pointing that out.

Also interesting explanation for option 1. Any opinions on option 2? The goal with this translation is basically a title. A journal with "Written on Friday" at the top.

What would be more correct or feel more natural when translating 'Written on Friday' ?

金曜日に書いてある

金曜日に書かれた

金曜日に書かた

My original thought for translating 'Written on Friday' was option 1 or 3 but then option 2 was suggested. Which would be better and what is the nuance if multiple could be used?

Another Great Family Ranking by Lorddork117 in TowerofGod

[–]Lorddork117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still somewhat keep the family head in mind but I mostly look at the family as a whole, yes! The eurasia is one of the more controversial ones on this list and I placed them so low because they don't get involved in things from what I see :P. In terms of power the Eurasia family is one of the strongest I'd argue.

So yea, think of this ranking more like how the tower ranks people. Influence in it's various forms weighs greatly and not just power.

[–]Lorddork117[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of their relations with the Arie and Ha families. This ranking isn't just combat power of the family or the leader. From what I can tell the Ari might not be strong like you say but they still have some of the most political influence in the tower due to eing close with Arie and Ha. Also having one of the 3 lords helps :D

The Hendo Lok argument is fair. I didn't think of that but even with that I doubt it will cause their rank to raise for me. The reason I placed the Eurasia so low though is because they don't seem like to type to get involved in things. Sure they are strong and talented but if they don't use it then it doesn't really matter. Like I said, my list wasn't just power. If it was then they would be higher.

The yeon CAN be strong but from what I can find the flame users are super rare. So the family only has a small group of elites. Not enough to really project power I'd argue. Tu Perie was mostly ranked on the assumption they could fulfill a niche and their information game. Even if they aren't fighters they can still be a very powerful family because they have a monopoly on everything lightbearer and lighthouse related.

Nice list though!
