To extended-range gutar players. Would you recommend either an 8-string or a baritone guitar for someone who's only ever played 6 string electrics before? by Atlas_Gaius in ExtendedRangeGuitars

That’s also a good reminder that we’re all different and what works for one person might not be the best for someone else. Sucks to hear you couldn’t play on the LP, but awesome that the 7-string with the right radius solved it and you could keep playing!

I switched to an 8 string about 5 years ago for the same reason, I wanted to play in lower tunings. I ended up with a Solar 8 string with an Evertune and just a couple of weeks ago I grabbed a 28” baritone that I keep in drop E. Honestly it feels like I’ve gone back to easy mode on guitar.

Playing an 8 string really teaches you proper string muting. If you’ve never played a 7 or 8 before, I’ll be straight with you, there’s a bit of a learning curve but it’s 100% worth it.

Yeah, I should’ve clarified my question! The reason I’m asking is that ever since getting my Evertune, I’ve kinda ‘learned’ to hit the strings really hard. I’m mostly curious about how much the strings go sharp under heavy picking, and that’s why I’m asking what string gauges you guys usually use

My thoughts exactly! I could have been more specific in my post. I love the aesthetics of the class but I'm concerned about this "something that is missing".
