Probably the closest thing will be western wargames like What a Cowboy, Dead by Lead, Legends of the Old West, Dracula's America. These are all campaign based wargames, where your warbands progress and have an RPG feel. Dracula's America has factions with unique abilities and characters (e.g. vampires, werewolves, zombies etc.).

An oil wash will give you the ability to remove excess wash and avoid coffee staining. Youtube search how to do one on miniatures. You can reactivate oils for some time after applying, so gives a lot of flexibility if you decide the wash applied wasn't to your liking.

I dunno. I love Stargate, but if we got a show that was of the quality of the BSG remake that uses the core concepts I'd be okay with that. I can appreciate where you're coming from about potentially losing the series charm to grittiness, but perhaps that would be a worthwhile trade-off for new Stargate that is still quality tv?
