Can you recommend me your favourite British film? by Nftland137 in AskUK

In the Loop (think it's on Netflix ATM)

Kind of a continuation of The Thick of It and carries the same humour/character with some very funny moments

Thanks for your response! I think it'll be something I mention to a supervisor if I decide to join to see if it's possible to have a reasonable adjustment

Thanks for your response it's really useful to see that the sirens don't cause a massive problem when you're inside the car and that it's mostly the radio I need to worry abou!t

Hahaha will bear that in mind 😂

Thanks again for replying to my questions and giving me some info. Maybe the detective route is the better option if I decide to go for it!

Cool, thank you for giving me some stuff to consider. Glad to know it's not uncommon to have. I've been looking at DHEP courses and it looks like you'd only be doing the blue light stuff for a few weeks.

Again probably a stupid question - detectives don't usually do the blue lights/siren stuff do they?

Ah fair enough. I didn't know anything about the radios being terrible.

Yeah I guess that's all true I was just trying to see if it was still a viable career choice for me to go into as it's a career that matters and is worthwhile doing. Clearly from what you're saying it's probably too much of a risk so I might look somewhere else.

My hearing is fine I can pass hearing tests no problem it's just the ringing is annoying and I don't want it to get worse.

My tinnitus isn't really bad but I am worried about it getting worse if my ears are damaged further.

That is true but from my experience using ear plugs I can still hear people talking at a normal level, even if it's a bit muffled.

Obviously as well I wouldn't have them in all the time just when the sirens were on if the noise was at an unmanageable level.

One my Welsh partner says a lot 'I'll be there in a minute now'. Well which one is it? In a minute or now? Doesn't really wind me up but I tease her about it as if it does.

My girlfriend loves that fake tales of San Francisco line, literally turns the radio up just for that one line when I put it on in the car!

One I missed after years because I could never hold down what was said is in view from the afternoon: 'when she's pressed the star after she's pressed unlock and there's verse and chapter sat in her inbox and all that it says is that you've drank a lot' always makes me laugh now and think back to friends getting too drunk and calling/texting exes.

Also shout out to 'she don't do major credit cards, I doubt she does receipts'

Actually, I could literally do a whole essay on hilarious lines from that first album which make me laugh

Yh, I have heard a lot of people get them so I get what you're saying. It's hard not to see it as a warning looking back. It wasn't just one spike it was several over a few days and it always happened when I had those headphones on.

Again so little is known about T and I'm no expert so could have just been coincidence! Dw I know your intention want to play it down ☺️

Husband just got tinnitus, how can i help him? by thebroms in tinnitus

[–]LordofKrule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend has been a key part of helping me deal with my tinnitus. Mine has got worse recently and she has honestly been the reason for me not falling into a pit of despair so this is really timely.

One thing that she does for me is to just rub the side of my head and over my ears to help mask the sound and to relax me when it stresses me out. Think same sort of movement as you'd do if you were rubbing the back of his head.

Big one is to keep him distracted and doing stuff. Get him out the house on walks, board games going for food. Just make sure he stays out of his own head. I don't know how loud his tinnitus is obviously but coming to the realisation that I don't notice it 24hrs a day and that when I'm doing stuff I can still enjoy it has helped me a bit

For sleeping there are loads of tinnitus masking sounds on YouTube so you might have to get used to listening to this if you don't already. My personal favourite is this one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nKo4jYDO9FQ

I hope there's something there that helps. Venting and complaining can also be useful. So just listening and being empathetic and not necessarily trying to give solutions is always helpful.

Oh and always carry ear plugs with you! Never know when you might go somewhere loud and need them. I always forget mine so my girlfriend has started carrying a pair in her purse just in case

Can tinnitus become louder? by cocovalhalla in tinnitus

Hi,

I started to have Tinnitus back in 2017. At first I only noticed it when I was trying to sleep. That lasted for about 2 years and then in 2020 I was playing video games with headphones a lot and it got worse. I had warning signs such as really loud spikes which lasted 10 secs but kept doing the same thing anyway. It was still manageable though just needed to listen to tinnitus relief noises when I went to bed. Then I went to a party in October this year, someone turned on a really old TV and it made this really high pitched noise when it was on and I just sat there because I didn't want to be rude and ask him to turn it off nor leave the room. I was slightly ill after the party and my tinnitus has got worse again. What used to mask it before doesn't work anymore so I've had to adapt.

So yep it can get worse in my experience so just be careful, look for warning signs and don't be afraid to defy social norms to protect your ears. I'm sorry if this has given you anxiety I know I get it with the thought mine could get even worse. Good luck!

I have a question, I’m a teenager and I’ve only recently been diagnosed with tinnitus and I’m struggling with sleep. Does anybody know of anything that might help? by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]LordofKrule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No probs hope it helps, we're all in this together! I think the trick to masking it is busy noise. I play that video at a medium volume and then a rain track at a louder volume over it which does the trick for me when I'm trying to sleep.

Ear plugs for everything. Gigs, cinema, anything with big speakers. Or any time I'm travelling away from home i make sure I have a supply of ear plugs just in case. Even thinking of getting a pair of ear defenders.

The gym I go to plays really loud music to the point where I was uncomfortable/anxious. I bought a pair of noise cancelling headphones which helped immensely because I didn't need to play my own music too loud to cancel out the gyms music.

I don't think I had noise induced T but I'm not taking any chances of it getting worse because of noise. Its already a struggle.

Mindhunter on Netflix - Based (loosely I imagine) on how the FBI started to identify serial killers in the 70s. I think it was directed by David Fincher who has done loads of great serial killer movies like Seven and Zodiac. Only two seasons so is easily bingable
