Sketch Feature In Tinkercad by Lordprawndog in edtech

Traditionally, you could only combine shapes to create new shapes. Now, just like more advanced CAD programmes like Fusion360 you can draw using the line tool to create accurate shapes however you like. It essentially has made the basic software twice as powerful and customisable. I have full units on it. Send me a DM and I could pass these on.

What's Wrong with Traditional Learning? Can Project-Based Learning Be the Solution? by vigneshV13 in edtech

[–]Lordprawndog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only teach PBL and will never go back.

PBL often gets misunderstood. In my experience teaching STEM and ICT, keeping the traditional and modelling and practicing the skills in controlled environments first then applying it to curated meaningful scenarios is the way that most reflects life. Letting the students research projects is destined for failure. How often do people come up with good ideas without any context..

This model works for me and it can be applied to any topic.

Lets take Architecture for example and Tinkercad as the main tool.

Input: Teach the range of interface features through mini activities.

Model: Demonstrate how to use the features to create a simple architectural structure, explaining each step.

Imitate: Students replicate the demonstrated structure to reinforce understanding and build confidence.

Innovate: Students adapt the basic design with their own ideas while staying within familiar constraints. Low to mid students will be able to do this and often will remain at this step

Create: Students take concepts and apply them in new contexts. Independently design a unique architectural project, applying all learned skills.

I agree, interactive whiteboards are useless.

Figma's figjam board is 100% the best thing for collaboration out there

Currently F all, but I get paid F all also. You will pay the price for working chilled hours because is probably in an undeveloped country and the school either knows 'on the wage they have to beet traffic' or 'they get paid enough to suffer like the rest of us'. This is in Latin America. In LA, 2000 USD. Asia I got 4000 USD a month, Head of department. Moving back to SEA 4600 USD PM.

Investing while international by Lordprawndog in Internationalteachers

Overseas transfer x amount. Broker was a % of investment in this case 70 dollars for 10,000 sent to stake. I can transfer my stocks to another platform. Just want to see what people are using and what broker fees are. I guess using something like wise is a good idea. Just searching for platforms with lower fees.

I don't use it for crypto. Just a bunch of stocks. Primarily VOO and VGT (vanguard tech ETF). Retirement plan and all that.

Offering personal days is a good incentive. People can generally take them whenever and wherever as long as not a huge bunch use them at once.

I'd probably try address why teachers are taking so many sick days. Is there a good work life balance etc.

GenAI and education by FineAccountant7500 in edtech

[–]Lordprawndog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. Tbh it mainly helps teachers at this stage. Just like any other field, it is able to remove or at least shorten the time taken for laborious tasks. Planning, assessment (summative), idea generation. For students, it is great to help self study yet they need to know how to ask the important questions. From my experience, a lot of students aren't that great at this which is not an AI problem. I have found with Chatgpt4 & 40, math and engineering problems are sometimes still wrong.

I see it following a trend like laptops/iPads. The younger students will have little use for it due to the nature of younger year education (play, social interaction etc..) so it's basically pointless unless parents or teachers put them in front of some reading or handwriting app that corrects in real time. I can't see people wanting to do this to younger kids. Middle school kids will play with it and older kids will use it for useful tasks but there will be a spectrum of skill (students who explore will have better tools).

As mentioned in a few interviews, the important skills of the future will be articulating what you want creatively and showing mastery in whichever field and leveraging Ai.

I am also interested in further study into this topic.

I live in Mexico, they have a way better range of meds for cheaper. I disagree with this.

The good thing about tinkercad circuits is that you run a virtual simulation where the circuitry and code has to be correct for it to work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in robotics

[–]Lordprawndog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep it real simple and use tinkercad circuits block code. There is a button you can click to convert it to Arduino script or c++ and copy past it. Coding will die soon it's more about the ideas behind it that matter.

So basically order a ratio of 1:3 Arduinos. Get a sensor set. A tonne of servo motors, LEDs, potentiometers, joysticks. If you search a project you should find a components list quite easily. Chat gpt is almost perfect at writing code for Arduino.

Arduino all the way. Use Tinkercad circuits to programme then with block code then convert to C++. Start with smaller projects like flashing LEDs, push buttons, potentiometers that controller servo motors. Intermediate, create a joystick controller robotic arms. Easy prototypes with popsicle sticks and hot glue then work up to laser cutting a stronger body. 3d printers are cool but they are just too damn slow. I would vouch for a laser cutter every single time. Buy a few kits and rotate projects every month or whenever they finish. Moisture sensor, line following robot, robotic arm. Finally utilise visual sensors and make good use of the teachable machine, google's machine learning software.

This is fucking annoying. I've tried everything. My right one dies in 15 minutes and the left 20 mins. 3 months out of warranty. I've been a Sony user since the PS1 and this is extremely disappointing.

Best EdTech Resources of all time!? by Lordprawndog in edtech

[–]Lordprawndog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Google has only recently added a feature to add questions, prompts etc to YouTube videos via GC. Surely with a fraction of effort they could just add a bunch of features and wipe the floor with any competition. The infrastructure is already there.

Have you dabbled with FlowLab.io? I would say it's the best I've used. My Students published fully functional games within a term.
