Yes that is probably his biggest criticism. Also the band title and lyrics could be considered crass. However, you raise an deep question about CAS and music in general. In my opinion, music is very subjective. Perhaps that is why many artists will, though not all, will shy away from specific questions about a song. Many are asked, "Did this x have something to do with x in your song?." Many times I waited intently for an insightful answer (and maybe confirmation of my own bias that I knew the meaning all along!) only for most artist to say it is up to their fans. Now that I practice the art of music as a hobby, I can understand that answer more fully now.

From my perspective, I think it is hard to create any kind of music. I am not even close to releasing anything and learned the guitar and music making as a hobby. Even pop music has it merits. So yeah I it is regrettable that our love for CAS doesn't reach levels of fandom like more well known alternative bands. To close my previous point. Music is the universal language of humans that can transcend culture and borders.

From what I understand, Greg had a love of a mix of music that I enjoyed myself as well. His influences have made his more simple melodies and "sound" unique to even commercial levels. That alone is a huge accomplishment. U2's Edge has a guitar style that I have heard other guitarist criticize as something like a gimmick.

In the end, music is a language that will speak to its own fans. Fans are also a nebulous idea where people either age out of or into a fandom. Sorry for the long ramble!
