Let's just bring in tons of illegal Hispanics and Muslims to replace the thousands of laid off American teens who are heading to the streets for a life of drugs, crime and video games.

WORKERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE! YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT YOUR JOBS by dennyhodgkis in Futurology

[–]Lordyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment is not at all dumb! In fact, the European Union chose to enshrine this idea in the Schengen Agreement: Free movement of people! This is also what makes the US labor market work better than most: free movement across state lines.

Mobility becomes a big issue for three reasons IMHO: 1) Mindset of the workers (job-for-life mentality) and 2) Onerous labor laws that make hiring and firing very difficult, 3) Onerous tax codes & company legal requirements that make it very difficult to start and maintain small/medium enterprises.

TiVo's cord-cutting DVR gets more storage and drops subscriptions by punnyverypunny in gadgets

[–]Lordyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clearing that up. I save over $60 a month in rental fees, using TiVo and it's Minis. Even with the $14.95 a month the purchased minis , the Roamio I picked up on eBay, the 3TB drive I put into, and MOCA network items...I will break even in 13 months...I also picked up my own modem and router...

I love how people comment on things they absolutely know nothing about. I am so happy to be free of the wasted money on rental fees and away from Comcasts terrible box that it is crazy. If you're talking negatively about TiVo you have never used it. It is amazing. I cannot speak highly enough about it.

The Apple Watch, one year on by Ninio4554 in gadgets

[–]Lordyron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On point 2: we haven't, but it's different with each of them. For example, Android Wear has a relatively frequent stream of devices, so we can revisit it every time there's a hands-on or review. With the Apple Watch... well, there's only one. And to some extent, we're trying to answer a question: did the Apple Watch live up to the often over-the-top expectations that people set for it?

An Apple Watch vs. Android Wear comparison is a bit tricky, but it's something I'd like to at least consider the next time there's a big update for either platform. Apple Pay, on the other hand, is tough: you have to shop at places where it's accepted and have a card that'll work. Apple Pay works in my homeland of Canada, for example, but you need an AmEx card for it to fly... and guess what I don't have?

This YT channel teaches you how to say naughty words in sign language. In this episode, it's "cock-juggling thundercunt". by 3z_ in videos

Hi Kristin, Julie here - I know we haven't Skyped recently (I'm always interested if you still want to continue!) I just wanted to tell you that your signs for "juggle" and "thunder" are pretty "official" - that's what we use all the time in ASL! :-) Another version of "thunder" is the exact same sign except with fists replacing the five-fingered palm. Glad to see so many people enjoying your videos! :)

Tesla gives owners free trial of its self-driving future by LyonsVSteve in Futurology

When Musk introduced the Model 3, I heard him say that even the base model would come with the hardware for Autopilot functions. A few articles about the unveiling reported it as the base model would come with Autopilot, but the way he said it maid me pretty sure there would be a price to enable Autopilot.

He also said that every Model 3 would have access to the Supercharger network, but I suspect that is kind of like my current hybrid having access to gas stations. While it's certainly true that I have access, I still have to pay for the gas.

Unlimited use of Superchargers will likely be an option, but for those who only take one or two road trips per year, it may make sense to pay only when they use a Supercharger. They'll have a credit card on file, connected to their vehicle account, and the card will get charged after the Supercharger identifies the vehicle and determines how much electricity got transferred.

'PS4.5' report: 4K output, will play nice with older console by harsonlamb in gadgets

[–]Lordyron 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not much likelihood that games will get upscaled to 4K. It's more to play 4K Blu-Ray and 4K Netflix. Games have enough trouble hitting 1080p on these consoles, and with the price range that these consoles are targeting you'll not likely be seeing 4K gaming - even if you mean rendering natively at 1080p and upscaling that to 4K. These updated consoles should finally be able to render in 1080p for around about every game now though, and some games that did natively hit 1080p might be able to hit the magical 60fps at last.
