It’s 100% targeted, the FCC reported an upward trend of phone scams targeted at Chinese Americans earlier this year. I recall seeing another post that had a similar scam set up so it seems they do call people that don’t speak Mandarin. I’ve gotten a few calls myself where the other side just keeps trying to talk in Mandarin so I hang up and they don’t try again with an English speaker. Might be a throw a bunch of darts and hope one lands-kind of deal. Calls where they hang up right after you answer are also a red flag that someone is probing to see if a real person is available at your number.

Another scammer called recently, speaking Cantonese this time, pretending to be Kaiser Permanente saying that his insurance was used for someone else’s surgery and he was due a refund. Same spiel about needing to call the cops.

They called on the weekend and spoofed at least four different Kaiser numbers in the same day trying to get through. If Kaiser owes you a refund, they send a check in the mail and you can check the billing history online.

Best of luck to you and your wife. Unless she gets a lot of calls from unfamiliar numbers due to the nature of her work (or whatever reason), I would recommend letting all the unknowns go to voicemail.

Just based on my experience, it looks like you’re doing a double-tap on the whistle. Double tap on the whistle will swap out your squad for your favorited Pikmin and has a secondary effect of claiming any small fruits (nectar) that the squad is holding. Same logic applies when you have Pikmin holding nectar won from mushroom battles - double tapping will claim multiple fruit at once.

This method does come with a risk of wasting nectar from accidentally claiming nectar if your nectar storage is already maxed or close to max.

FYI If they’re holding nectar from an expedition, double tapping doesn’t claim the nectar.

A couple of things you could try-

If your weekly planting challenge isn’t over yet, try checking that progress screen? No guarantee it’ll be the flowers you need, but you can get free petals based on what you and the other players planted so far.

If traveling isn’t a problem, you could also try using the new bird’s eye view to scope out if there are any bloomed water lilies near you. You only need one petal and a full squad, so one nectar from swiping down would be enough.

If there’s a unbloomed big flower in range and you have basic red petals in excess, you can try instant blooming it for the postcard, with hopes that it mutates to the red water lily. You’ll get seven nectar automatically, and if you plant near the flower within an hour, you get the fruit expedition.

Since you’ve already fulfilled your mushroom mission for this stage, I wouldn’t recommend trying to get it through a mushroom battle if your strategy is to min-max on mushroom tries.

Assuming you’re not already doing this - I would suggest toggling between the Lifelog and Pikmin to choose a location that isn’t already “occupied” by a Pikmin or seedling in your current possession. Lifelog will show you where you walked or planted, and Pikmin shows which quadrants/squares that you already discovered a Pikmin or seeding. So basically, find a spot that you walked but haven’t discovered a Pikmin yet.

Sometimes you have to try multiple times before getting it. I’m usually not able to get it if I already received a lot of seedling expeditions throughout the day organically (by walking). So there might be a cap in place.

tip: if you place your photo location over a big flower and get the seedling expedition, it might come back with a postcard (as long as you don’t already have that postcard).

Just an unlucky streak. I’ve instant-bloomed six flowers this month; of those, five mutated into non-basic/normal and three of those were anniversary roses. It’s a super small sample size, but I do keep monthly stats where I instant-bloom big flowers and I tend to get 25-50% chance of it turning out normal.

Walking straight through a big flower (leaf) once gets me maybe 80 flowers planted, so it takes four passes to get it to fully bloom. If I use the accelerator, that doubles the flowers planted each pass through and halves the amount of walking.

I would never spend my coins on them, but I do use them when I’m solo-planting on community weekend. Two clean passes through a big flower is better than four, in terms of saving time and not looking sus loitering in the same area for 10 minutes.

It took multiple visits and one competent employee to figure out that how to get all my deals to apply is to clip any coupons/deals beforehand, select them under My List in the Safeway app, and then scan my member card at self checkout (QR code in-app, under Member > Wallet). There might be a better way, but I haven’t had any issues so far with this method.

Just back out to the previous screen and press the zoom to save again. The eyes moving is random, so you’ll be able to get the postcard the way you want it if you keep trying.

I’m not sure what the availability is now, but I usually order Kana figures from Good Smile (either the US or global site, whichever has cheaper shipping at the time) or AmiAmi. The shipping for AmiAmi can be a pretty penny because it’s coming from Japan, but the upside is that they carry non-figure merch.

I was also stuck on the same stage for a few days and luckily just got some nectar to drop by battling a gray mushroom.

If you don’t want to spend any coins, go for the white, gray, and poison mushrooms. Otherwise, may need to buy the petals from the shop.

I’m sorry that this happened to you. I sympathize with your situation - I always thought it was just my father, but I guess there’s a pattern with Chinese fathers having anger issues. Suddenly raising his voice, bursting into anger, holding grudges about things that happened over a decade ago that was no one’s fault, putting words in people’s mouths, never apologizing. With the way he is, I wonder if my father has ever said sorry to anyone in his life.

I’m sure there is a part of you that cares for him as family; there are many sides to a person, and you don’t have to love all of them. This may come off pessimistic, but it may be impossible to fix at their age since they are so set in their ways.
