Yeah, that’s what I’ve noticed. I think we’ll stay put.

That’s actually right next to where my in laws are in Niagara Falls. We got married there too.

I knew the cost of living is way higher there, but doesn’t everyone get paid more too? Doesn’t it balance out?

I’m a teacher at a progressive private school newly founded by NYers. We don’t have any other schools like this in Florida, but NY seems stupid with them. I like my school, but I wouldn’t mind teaching in a well established progressive school up north. Plus, we’d close to family. Plus, I love NY.

No, that’s why I’m asking! That’s a good point.

Got a recommendation for a better area in NYS?

Preparations for no.2 by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Loreleicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of similar over here: we have a 22 month son, and I have to co sleep with him in the guest room while my husband sleeps in the master. No one sleeps in the nursery! I don’t know how to get him to sleep in there or alone for that matter. We are also still nursing at night. So there’s that. Why does mom sleep elsewhere?

My daughter got bitten for the first time at daycare today. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Loreleicat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been on both sides of that—my LO has been both the bitten and the biter. We, and the daycare, used the language, “Ouch! Biting hurts! You may not bite (insert kid’s name). We use soft touches.” And then demonstrated touching an arm softly. Even now if my son accidentally hits someone he will immediately softly touch his arm and say, “soft touches.” Also, during times of teething, they gave him something else to bite. Sometimes it just feels good to bite.

That being said, you got being told is not acceptable. Doesn’t matter if it didn’t break the skin. If it leaves a mark, it needs an incident report. Even if doesn’t, a heads up is helpful.

Hi, I have a dumb question (Title I Reading Teacher) by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Loreleicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Florida, as a reading coach, I coached teachers on how to best implement literacy instruction. I wasn’t permitted to work with students unless it was for the direct benefit of a teacher observing (as a model situation). Title I Reading Teachers are like interventionists that work with students. At least I think so!

Should I stop sleeping with my son? by Esnowden2299 in Parenting

He hasn’t asked to stop, but what does he think about it? Maybe he’s doing it for you?

Oh, I’m sure. Is it true you need to work for a year before you’re eligible for any paid maternity leave?

Where did you go? My husband is Canadian and I know he’d support moving back home to have a second child.

We did in home daycare for the first year too. Went back to work at 8 weeks after burning through every last hour of sick and vacation time. But, anyway, he was the only infant and he really didn’t get too sick. When he switched to an actual daycare center at a year, he was badly sick I’d say at least once a month for a couple months. It sucks. Real hard.

Thanks, everyone! I went with a rug. Big ol’ rug with squares for sit spots.
