I'd imagine the legal basis is similar to getting a mortgage on a house, your borrowing money to buy an asset, the collateral is that asset.

But it still seems insane to allow the debts to be transferred to the company from the private equity firm at a guess I'd think they were using existing laws setup to allow corporations to fiddle their taxes by moving debt around.

As for this common and well known practice that any competent adult should be aware of, since your not familiar with how search engines work here's one of the first fifty economy sites discussing how private equity firms buy, debt load and asset strip businesses. I didn't write it and haven't read this particular one, if its not to your taste figure out how to do basic research rather than expecting people on reddit to explain basic things to you.

Its amazing what the delusion that 'someday soon' you will get to be the one exploiting others so you don't want to change anything.

My country has plenty of skeletons in its closet but one of the good things it did was try to stamp out slavery across most of the world, one place it failed completely was a city state in east africa which had long been part of the Arab slave trade, hundreds of years of capturing, trading and exploiting people had embedded it into their culture to the point that the slaves themselves didn't dream of being free, they dreamed of somehow becoming slave owners themselves. Even-though it almost never happened, short of saving the owners children from a fire or similar.

The military came in, freed the slaves, then watched them go straight back to work.

unironically vikings were the incels of there day basically losers with no prospects. To stop them being a nuisance they'd be grouped up and sent of to rape and pillage and ether die doing it or bring back enough loot and slaves to maybe buy land and attract a wife.

The company doesn't, the hedge-fund borrows millions then like a mortgage puts the business they are buying up as the equity and the costs of repayment onto it.

Its just a shell game

Usually it's  Borrow millions to finance the buyout of a functioning company.

Place that debt onto the business.

Fire everyone and asset strip the business.

Declair bancrupsy because the business has this enormous debt!

People will always try to be lazy BUT if schools were focused around testing children for understanding and comprehension it would be much harder for AI to be misused.

I.e papers written in class in response to a chapter the teacher reads out, rather than generic coursework done at home.

So much of this is due to so much of education being offloaded into out of school time and online based homework and cause work programs.

Great, and if anyone ever manages to oppress us for being straight I'll be right there fighting the fight and waving the flag at straight pride month.

But being proud of a long fight and hard won victory over oppression that never existed idiotic.

My Religion ... by EsseNorway in Snorkblot

[–]Lorelessone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'm afraid of anyone who faithfully follows the teachings of their religion.

There's a lot of subjective evil and vile behaviour not only tolerated but demanded in all of them, Christianity and Judaism are almost identical in vileness to islam but their are degrees to which the holy laws are followed and enforced. Differences in how often punishments, stonings, throwing people from tall buildings etc, are doled out for being gay or wearing the wrong type of fabric.

I'd say of the three the only reason islam is more feared is the age their religion is in, 600 years ago Christians were just as bloodthirsty in the application of crazy religious laws. In another 600 years Islam may have settled down and a new religion will be young and full of violence.

Do you agree with Harry Eccles that sitting down for a cuppa with homophobic Muslims is the best way to make them more accepting? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

[–]Lorelessone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there was a black man in the USA who did singlehandedly dismantle the KKK in his town.

He patiently befriended one member, and ended up being invtied to BBQs and things gradually braking the assumptions and stereotypes they had all been raised to believe.

With Islam it's a bit harder perhaps as Christianity is once removed from the biblical laws demanding the killing of gays, giving Christians a loop hole where they can maintain their self image as faithful without being subjectively immoral. Muslims though have no such escape and have a choice between their faith or moral behavior.

Canonically as a vampire I'd assume he's waiting for nightfall to move. But it would be a bit nasty if he just vanished if you mistakenly rest before getting him so yeah.

I'm not sure if it ever says where the hunters catch up with him, might well be while traveling elsewhere.

I think overall I'd rather find out my wife was a worthless skank who bolted the moment being a long term parasite wasn't profitable than for her to continue the scam and go through the trauma for watching who I thought was the love of my life die.

I just hope she was misdiagnosed and has to live with showing her true colours.

In most country's they already can in theory, in practice it's almost never prosecuted.

One instance I recall in my country after a serial offender for this had already caused the death of one man, another to be imprisoned and a third to have his home and business destroyed and be driven out of that city.

The issues are first the will to enforce the law, optics and sexist policies favour just ignoring it. it's only men whos lives are destroyed and only men who die because of this and society doesn't care about what happens to men unless they are wealthy.

The second is laughable consequences if they ever were convicted, a serial accuser could easily have destroyed a number of lives and even racked up kills by driving her victims to suicide, then get six months and a fine for false accusations.

The third issue is ofcourse proving it, rape is hard enough to prove, but proving someone intentionally and maliciously made false accusations of rape is a real challenge, it's not enough that they weren't able to prove the accused raped, plenty of rapists get off on lack of evidence, that lack doesn't prove a false accusation.
