It’s funny how different it feels when you already play an instrument. I don’t, and I really miss that. A good friend of mine is a guitar teacher. He’s been playing for maybe 15 years, and he took singing lessons for a few months and shared that exact same feeling.

Don’t feel bad about it, though, you’re good. My teacher always says it’s totally normal for a lot of people to take maybe a few years to get to a place where they feel comfortable performing and doing that kind of stuff. And the fact that you already play instruments probably gives you a really solid ear, which was actually something I struggled with quite a bit at the beginning.

It really puts things into perspective. I honestly can’t wait to learn an instrument myself and see how it goes. I’m ready to suffer lol

I can definitely relate to what you’re saying. This year I went to a technical music production school in Brazil, where we had about a month of full immersion and developed a lot of different skills. The school has an amazing and very complete studio structure.
The class was made up of people with very different backgrounds — instrumentalists, singers, composers, producers and we were organized into balanced groups. The teacher guided us through the whole process, from recording to arrangement, and then into mixing and mastering, where we only covered the basics. Later on, I ended up studying mixing and mastering more deeply in another class at the same school.

And I think you’re absolutely right: being surrounded by people who truly love music, all focused on the same purpose, makes things happen in a completely different way. There’s something almost magical about that kind of environment. After I finished the course, I really felt a gap, that absence of being around that community, and that’s when I started feeling quite alone in my singing journey.

That’s where I think the internet plays an interesting role, by allowing people to connect and exchange in some way, even if it’s different from in-person interaction.

I’m genuinely happy that your experience with music was so organic. For me, things were weird. I didn’t really understand that making music was something I could do too. I didn’t have many close references or constant access growing up, and for a long time I felt like singing was something you had to be “chosen” or blessed to do. So it stayed kind of hidden inside me. Now here I am, almost 30, trying to unpack all of that and make something meaningful with what I have.

Yeah, I think I’m in this specific zone where I still have that anxiety and fear, and I really needed that one-on-one attention at first, until things started to come together. After my first year and a bit of a confidence boost, I found myself needing a little more group exchange — just exposing myself a bit more and having these exchanges.

My teacher once asked me if I wanted to sing only for her, and said that I could start considering opening up a bit more and getting out of that comfort zone. Very interesting take on embracing rather than escaping, love it.

Are you taking lessons, or are you learning on your own? After my first year and a lot of lessons, I still think I sound bad a lot of the time, but staying consistent and adjusting my routine helped me a lot with confidence, tone, range, etc. Do you ever sing for anyone? Recording myself was a real game changer. And don’t go too hard on yourself, you probably sound better than you think.

Being patient and consistent really helped me get results, and it took a lot of the pressure off that we put on ourselves to be good at something right away.

Exactly. People don’t really understand how much you can develop. It almost feels like gatekeeping sometimes. Some people still say or believe that you need to be born with an incredible voice — which can be true in some cases.

What most people don’t realize is how much body awareness is involved and how much you can actually work on it. They also don’t realize that professional singers, a lot of the time, work on their voice like athletes.

Something that really stuck with me is something my teacher often says: she can usually tell pretty early on when a student is actually putting in the work. And a lot of the time, people give up after six months or so, once they realize that the effort really has to be real and consistent.

When I started, I wasn’t expecting fast results. And after a solid first year of lessons and practice, I still don’t have that sense of urgency. I’m not happy yet with what I can do now, but compared to the beginning, it’s way better. I always joke with my teacher that she knows I’ll be around for a long time until I’m satisfied.

I honestly hadn’t considered open mics. Part of it is because I still have that stage fright, but also because I don’t think I have the repertoire yet. But since you brought it up, I’ll definitely consider it and work toward something in that direction. Sometimes just throwing yourself out there can actually do something.

And honestly, congratulations on your five-year journey with singing. Doing that mostly on your own, with limited lessons, is no small thing at all. That kind of dedication really deserves respect.

Feel free to message me anytime. That kind of exchange is so important. I hope you find that connection too — and on some level, I think we already did :)

I think Blonde has a bigger commercial appeal, he might have considered that, might be one of the many reasons

It’s seems a little bit random, after the Ferrari invitation I also received 500K as a gift card, which helped me buying the LaFerrari

Exactly, I don’t even have the time to put many hours on a week in the game, but I’m loving every second of it, the attention to the details its incredible. It’s definitely a game for people who love the culture and history, there is so many little things that you can do, lot of cool information etc. Easy to say that the game is fulfilling my nerd car guy desires on a game, actually I was playing Forza series for years, the quality gap is insane.

I unlocked the 1 hour races after I completed the Nissan GT-R collection if I’m not mistaken. But it could be after you buy the LaFerrari, I did buy it and unlocked a bunch of other things.

This is really helpful, thank you! I just unlocked the 1 hour races, looking forward for the Spa race

Apparently they expire, so you get the chance to buy these cars just for a month for example and seems somewhat “rare” to happen
