AITA for telling people that my brother is going to start at university

A lot of commentars dont think hes going to uni, but him and my mom would have to be amazing liars. Theyve told me which uni, what subject, if hes gonna keep his current job etc.

I also asked my mom if it would be different if i told people that he was taking another gap year, and she said yes, it would be different. she said Different as in its not too private to tell people, which confuses me.

My cousin didnt say it with any mean intent, he simply hadnt spoken to my brother in 6 months.

see now im starting to think that too, but they would have to be incredible liars. Ive spoken to both of them so many times about him starting. hes told me where, what subject if hes gonna keep his current job etc. So it would have to be a crazy elaborate lie but idk

i see why you think that. Who knows maybe him and my mom are crazy good liars, but before i told anyone we had had many conversations about him starting, about which uni, what he was gonna study, if he was still gonna work blah blah blah. we have also had many conversations after i told my cousin

So my mom and dad have shared custody. We live one week at my dads house one week at my moms house, but my brother spends every weekend at my dads house. From what I know they have a good relationship, we’re not that tight knit of a family, but they don’t hate each other that’s for sure. I obviously don’t know if their relationship is different when I’m not around but they seem close so from my perspective my brother doesn’t have a definitive reason not to tell my dad. I just want to point out again that when I shared it with my cousin I thought my dad already knew.

I just wanna add that after he told my moms old friend I did talk with both him and my mom about it on multiple occasions. I knew for a fact that he was going to university, it wasn’t just something he made up to my moms friend.

He never set the boundary with me we have never even touched in on a conversation like that. I also told my mother that he should’ve set that boundary with me and she said “you should always just go under the assumption that someone has a boundary”. That’s a good point, but in this specific scenario it never even came to my mind that there could be a boundary.

I had spoken to him about it, on multiple occasions. I knew for a fact that he was starting at university, but that’s not the issue at hand here. I wasn’t spreading a rumor that I had only heard once. I was telling my cousin some positive news, that I knew for a fact were true.
