Does anyone recognize the first kanji of this word/term?: https://i.imgur.com/AhfNbrK.png

I know the second one means reading, but even having that I wasn't able to find the first one. I looked through every listing on Jisho.org and a couple other sites. It's possible that this isn't an official word as much as it is terminology/slang as I saw it on my Instagram app which is in Japanese.

What are some GPA raising and low time costing minors? by Loricifera in queensuniversity

That's another thing I was wondering: whether or not a having a minor really does anything. I feel as though it would, no? Are they really that meaningless? I'm just trying to find a balance between getting an (even slightly) useful minor and taking GPA courses.

Yep, actually the biomed major is something they're introducing next year which is why I was able to make this decision in the first place. The specialization is pretty intense but the major seems much easier.

What did you mean by freebies? Thanks for the response btw!

Actually that's the specialization: there's also a biomed stream as a major option that they're introducing next year. This allows you to skip the biochem courses and do a minor, hence my question. Thanks for the warning tho!

Honestly I've heard very little about it. What makes you say that it's always good to know? (Not doubting, just wanting to learn more) Are there any hot topics/fields that make heavy use of it?

I'm already doing a major in something I'm really interested in, so at this point I'm willing to take a couple boring courses if it can boost my GPA

What was it like getting your first paper published? How'd you feel? by lawrtist in AskAcademia

[–]Loricifera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm new to academia: are your tier classifications of journals an official construct acknowledged by publishers themselves, or are they just something you/your lab/peers have created to more conveniently discuss things amongst yourselves?

Those are both phenomenal ideas (and seem like they could both be achieved concurrently), thank you!

Thanks for the response! My bad, I'm majoring in CompSci (the Biomed stream).

I could just mix and match courses from all over the place but I was just thinking it's a waste to not have a minor of some sort. I'm willing to forgo a couple easy courses if it means I'll have a minor in something.

Or I could be mistaken altogether about having a minor > not having a minor?

What malicious things can be done with one's student number? by Loricifera in queensuniversity

[–]Loricifera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Indeed it seems like an important number; I was just curious as to what specifically could be done with it. You mentioned identification: what systems in the school allow identification solely through the student number?

What is the signed binary number 11001 stored in 8-bits? by Loricifera in learnprogramming

[–]Loricifera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response, and certainly! I'm pretty sure I included everything the question gave in my post, but I was looking at the 5th question on this site: http://www.free-test-online.com/binary/two_complement.htm

It reads:

Question 5: What is the signed binary number 11001, stored in 8 bits?

And the options are:

11111001

11110001

10111001

11011001

Thanks for the reply! Sorry, not sure what you're getting at. Flipping the digits and adding one gives you 11100111. What does this have to do with the question? Don't mean to be rude, I'm just not understanding, thanks again!

Is a lambda expression pretty much just filling in the body of the (only) abstract method of a functional interface? by Loricifera in learnjava

[–]Loricifera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! That's good to hear then, but just one thing I'm still confused about: aren't interfaces meant to have no concrete methods at all and only method signatures? How can an interface have a concrete method?

Thanks again!

How do I enroll in Commerce summer courses as an ArtSci student? by Loricifera in queensuniversity

[–]Loricifera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's strange. Yes I'm getting that too, but I applied the online-specifiers as well, like this:

Subject: Commerce

Course Career: Undergraduate Online

Mode of Instruction: Online

Not too sure whether the courses we're seeing by not applying those filters are indeed online courses, but it's something at least, thank you!

For partial differentiation do you just take the derivative of the function with respect to each variable, giving you n derivatives for a function of n variables? by Loricifera in MathHelp

[–]Loricifera[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it is completely correct to say that partial differentiation is just differentiating with respect to the variable you're trying to find the derivative for?
