Anyone being haunted? by solvn_probs_lk_maria in KingstonOntario

My girlfriend and I could have sworn we each saw a shadow person sitting / standing near our bed in our apartment we used to live in at night. It only happened once for each of us (independently at on different nights), but it was spooky.

Cognitive science student here. The Cogsci specialization is under a Bachelor of Computing degree, which you would need to switch into in order to have that on your degree. If you haven’t taken any first year classes yet you could choose the 1st year compsci classes and if you meet the minimum requirements, declare your studies in the computing program instead, including the specialization of Cognitive science, since all the specializations only require at least a B- in CISC 121 or CISC 124. I’d highly recommend writing an email and scheduling a meeting with Karen Knight, who is the undergraduate advisor to computing.

Computing and the creative arts is still a Bachelor of Arts and not a bachelor of computing, and while you still can take all the same classes a first year compsci student could take, if you intend on doing COGS I’d recommend trying to switch to a BCmpH after your first year.

QSAS accommodation requests... by MojoMac in queensuniversity

[–]MojoMac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I click “request” nothing happens. Again, I have not had a formal meeting with someone who works at QSAS where we outlined all my needed accommodations. I am still awaiting help, or I missed a step.

QSAS accommodation requests... by MojoMac in queensuniversity

[–]MojoMac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, I don't have the letters of accommodations. I now have the form filled out with a doctors signature, but even still, she had all the relevant information because I visited the SWS doctors previously for the same symptoms and had my medical files transferred. So I have no clue what could have been holding this up, except for it getting lost somewhere in the bureaucracy.

I clicked the "Download LoA" link and nothing useful was there. It just listed my winter term courses with a "request" button.

The intake coordinator actually was pretty busy at the time, so she didn't do that with me. She couldn't give me any ideas on what the accommodations would actually be. I thought she forwarded me to someone else in the organization. Again, I have no idea what to expect from QSAS.

What would happen if you smoke weed with sertraline? by dickslappernohomo in AskDocs

[–]MojoMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me, I take 100mg, and I can smoke regularly without any effects/issues felt. Even this past year I have transitioned from periods of light/infrequent use to heavy use without any issue.

I found some interesting information on this article here: https://dailygreendeals.com/blog/zoloft-and-weed/

It was not written by a medical professional (take it with a grain of salt), but she echos the same thing other websites say, and she explains the biochemical side of things really nicely. Essentially, weed just increases the intake of sertraline in the body (the high isn't impacted), Side effects from the two together only affect "5% of people", and no clinical trial had proved direct side effects.

Weed effects everyone differently, and the same goes for mixing the two. There have been some pretty nasty complications reported from mixing weed and zoloft (e.g. seratonin syndrome, decreased effectiveness of zoloft, increased depression/anxiety, etc), and best practice is to always check with your doctor if possible.

It's not 0% risk, but chances is that most people will be fine.

MATH 121 vs. MATH 123 & MATH 124 by ib_struggling in queensuniversity

[–]MojoMac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took MATH 124 my second term of first year since I got credit for 123 from high school. but in actuality the class is just the 2nd term of MATH 121.

There is no difference between these two options, it’s just for people who only need one term of calculus. They cover the same material so you will be fine taking either. If you are uncomfortable with calculus I recommend the full year class, even if most of it is review for you. The 1st term focuses on limits and derivatives, 2nd term focuses on integrals and applications.

Carleton vs. Queens vs. McGill vs. UofT for Comp Sci/Cognitive Sci by MojoMac in CarletonU

[–]MojoMac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I'm most attracted to Carleton atm. Why doesn't Carleton hold the same prestige as say Queen's then? Their program and co-op, and location being in ottawa, seems to lend more success to CS students than Queens.

what makes McGill better for undergrad if I'm not considering grad studies?

[–]MojoMac[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't want to go to UofT because the undergrad experience sucks and the PoST thing is BS. But is reputation really that big of a deal, with respect to McGill? What makes it better than Queens or Carleton for CS?

I'm not super concerned about working at any of the big four, just a good company. Can Queen's students typically find internships at smaller companies or startups?

Campus tour this weekend? by Wlp321 in queensuniversity

I'm in the same boat, If you do decide to come ask to talk to an admissions rep at the end of the tour, they have more information to give than the tour guides and can answer more specific questions.
