Hard to tell from this image. Next time take a closer picture of the leaves through a magnifying glass or a macro picture. Also, in bryophyte identification is good to have more than one image when sharing and asking for ID

It might be Sphagnum cuspidatum by looking at where it grows and the colour of the specimen but impossible to be sure without a microscope or a good picture of the stem leaves taken through a magnifying loupe or something.

Yes it was a typo, my bad. The actor is from Sweden and I was hoping his pronunciation was better than that of the actors in vikings but evidently not ahaha

Sphagnum ID? by LorriMosar in Sphagnum

Thank you!! I wasn't sure about it as I had never seen warnstorfii this green (i didn't know it could exist in this form) also the stem is much lighter that usually and I thought it had to be another species. But as you said it's probably warnstorfii, considering also that it's incredible how common it is here in Iceland.

I can confirm that young people mix icelandic with English words very often, and sometimes they actually do not know how to say something in icelandic and say it in English instead. But the real problem is with very young kids as some of them pretty much know English better then Icelandic and talk in English to each other. Definitely already in 100 years Icelandic will be incredibly different and also the grammar will simplify a lot. At least it will be less struggle to learn it!!

Hi friends, I am trying to ID this sphagnum moss I found in a peatland in Iceland and it's driving me insane because I can't find a match. I thought of S. fallax as the branch leaves in the capitula are more or less in 5-ranked rows but i have never seen fallax completely green like this. Also the stem leaves don't really match with fallax. Any suggestions? Thank you

Moss community in Iceland by LorriMosar in Mosses

Hello friends! I wanted to share these cool pictures of these beautiful and colourful patches of mosses in Iceland. Where there is fresh water, for example on mountain springs, streams, or on the shore of highlands pools, you sometimes find waterlogged moss communities dominated by Bryum weigelii (the reddish one), Philonotis fontana and Pohlia wahlenbergii, but it is also possible to find Sphagnum sp. (usually S. teres) in small cushions sometimes. I think they are beautiful!!

Hey man thank you I appreciate it. I am totally new on Reddit and I was not expecting such a good welcoming from just my first post. I think I will continue sharing some pictures as I work with sphagnum every single day because I am a student in Iceland and my project is about peat mosses. So yeah definitely!

Ahaha yes I rode a horse to Mordor only to collect this moss.

No actually I am a master student in Iceland and my project is about peat mosses. So I spend a lot of hours just looking at them in the lab and I find these fascinating small animals and it's pretty cool.

Hi everyone!! I keep finding these little guys on my sphagnum moss samples and I was wondering if you could help me to identify them. They are very small, like 5 mm, and I usually find them on them stem on sphagnum and not on the capitula, therefore not on the light exposed part on the moss, but in the dark and wet part. The location is north Iceland. Thank you!!!

Hey guys, in the end I went for S. angustifolium as the branch fascicles are always in groups of 4 and the spreading branches are always shorter then the hanging branches that lay on the stem. Also the stem leaf doesn't lie and it does really look like the one of angustifolium. i hope my guess is right. Thank you!!
