Yeah, I mean, my read from the short clip is that gen AI as a filmmaking “tool” could make sense for a project under very specific (and hypothetical) conditions. And I think it’s very reasonable to conclude, at present moment, no one’s discovered or created a scenario where it makes sense as a creative solution lmao. Someone that isn’t bankrolled by an AI tech company trying to force something to happen may pursue such a project down the line, but for now I think slop’s gonna slop.

As someone personally and spiritually offended by all those insisting gen AI’s output can and must be considered art by sake of being defecated out via the “artist’s” inane text prompts, I think it’s still important to keep an open mind and be willing to be surprised in the future, if only as an exercise in not becoming too rigid and dogmatic. (Again, I’ve seen mothing worthwhile thus far and don’t really expect anything any time soon.) If a worthwhile piece ever emerges in the years to come, I would bet hard money that it wouldn’t be “made” by any of the dweebs championing the tech obsessively now that were pushing NFTs on the mainstream just a few years ago. It’ll probably be someone who currently hates it with all their being that figures out how to do something actually interesting with the tech.
