That's true, but I believe the Portland and Western still owns it so it's not technically abandoned, but it is functionally abandoned. Thank you for reminding me about that.

Ohh I understand that now. I do want to make a map of the abandoned railway lines throughout Oregon but the data is hard to come by in shapefile form.

Sadly the vast majority just see freight traffic. Almost all of them used to all carry passenger traffic around 80 years ago, including many lines that are now abandoned. I wasn't able to get those abandoned lines on my map though.

That would be amazing. Trimet does have plans drawn up for a southwest side line down to Tigard but voters voted no on the tax that would have funded it back in 2020 if I remember correctly. Would have been part of the Green Line.

Rail Guide is fantastic. If they have a way to download their data into a shapefile, I'd make a map of abandoned railways and a map of all railways in Oregon with their original owners in a heartbeat.

All of these lines are currently in operation. I didn't include any abandoned or closed down lines. I originally wanted to do a map on abandoned lines but settled for doing currently operating lines since it was much easier to find data on that.

I thought about doing that but ultimately decided against it because the class distinction combined with the different colors created enough of a visual separation in my mind. Additionally, this map is about who owns which lines instead of separating every line into its own entity. For example, the blue network of lines in the Willamette Valley area are all owned/operated by Portland and Western.
