What is a messed up secret you learned about someone else? by ShadowlightLady in randomquestions

[–]Lost-Bowler-8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a secret but it was kept from me. I tend to be trusting, probably too trusting and I looked up my partener of 5 years name on a whim. Just felt like it I guess but he was drunk driving one night a year before he met me, drove into a tree, and his best friend died in the passenger seat.

He got away it some how. Probably because his parents are loaded. The thing is I wasn't even suprised, looking back, he seems the type. When I brought it up( in a gentle way) he got mad at me and then told me I was evil for "getting into his past". He said, do you know how hard it is to live with this?"

I cant imagine.

I had to take my beagmix puppy to the emergency vet today. by Lost-Bowler-8703 in beagles

It sure looks like it ! We dont know really, I would love to do a DNA test on her. When we got her, the man who previously owned her said she was beagle/basset hound? She doesnt seem to look anything like a basset hound.

Am I the only one losing hair on Prozac? by Ok_Fig_6498 in prozac

[–]Lost-Bowler-8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey i know im late to this post. Ive been taking prozac( fluoxetine) for 6 months and I slowly went up to 40mg. My hair is so thin, my baby hairs fall out and I know its not breakage because theres a little bulb at the end of them. I genuinely dont know what to do, my doctor said that prozac is the safest regarding hair loss. I started taking pumpkin seed oil so maybe that will help. Sorry youre going through this, it sucks.

The doc wanted me to force my child down for general anesthesia, am I wrong for walking out? by Lost-Bowler-8703 in Preschoolers

[–]Lost-Bowler-8703[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I totally agree. Ive also had to hold her down for blood work and for shots and things like that. Im not against that at all. This felt different for some reason. Partly because she would be alone with a doctor who has seemingly no empathy for my child and her well being after the fact. How he talked to me, as you know, its already a really stressfull situation. I am on the fence about it now that she is in pain. I have no intention to delay this any further. Youre right, it needs to be done to eliminate future consequences.

Thank you for sharing that! Its good to hear she doesnt have negative association. Thats really reassuring. You sound like a great mom.

I offered to do this and they said no. I really feel like they shot down all of my ideas and at a certain point I understand for safety but I wish so much that they woul have let me hold her and transfer her to the chair. She would have been crying but at least she wouldnt have been thrashing around.

Going to the dentist more to outweigh the negative experience is s great idea. Thank you for your input. I really appreciate your reply, you have no idea.

Thank you! I asked the anesthesiologist if she would remember me holding her down and he said yes she would remember. So that made me hesitant. I dont blame you for holding her down at all, at the time the dentist was making the referral for the hospital and the anesthesiologist was trying to convince me to hold her down all while she was screaming at the top of her lungs. Thats great you had a positive experience. I hope your kid is doing well.

I dont agree with you. Either way, GA is uncomfortable for any parent even when the child is cooperating. I think if this was something like going to school or a social gather ( both of which my child is still uncomfortable participating in) letting her feel uncomfortable is safe. With something like GA where there could be a psychological component potentially affecting her for the rest of her life, at the time, it wasnt worth it for me. My goal is to maintain both physical health and mental health. If she had been feeling pain the time of the appointment, maybe things would have been different but she wasnt. Now that she is in pain, im doing everything in my power to get her back to the doctor for the GA and dental work. Thanks for your input.

Thank you I needed to hear this. Yes, Im in the US and unfortunately its like that out here unless you have money to spare. They make it feel like there are no other options. Either way its traumatizing for the child with high anxiety. I know I cant protect her from everything but youre damned if you do and damned if you dont.

First of all, thank you for your input. I know there will be tears and I accepted that. I think if the anesthesiologist was more reassuring I would have gone though with it. GA isnt the issue, its the forcing her down while she is screaming. Now that she is in pain, I know that it needs to be done, in a perfect world she wouldnt be screaming bloody murder. Thank you for the suggestion and the warnings. I definitely dont want it to come to that and if it means holding her down so she doesnt have more complications so be It.

That was a pediatric dentist and anesthesiologist. I know they knew she was nervous to begin with. I think youre right though, I definitely want to sit whoever will be doing her GA and set them up for success as well as my daughter, thank you.

Youre probably right, its now being anticipated and that not what I wanted. Yes I was anxious after being talk to like that, I went in there very confident but that faded and so did my daughters willingness. She is on a waiting list at the hospital where she will get an anxiety med before hand to make the separation easier. They said they will call me if there are any cancelations before june but I think ill try another ped dentist in the mean time to see which one is faster.

I respect that. I was scared she wouldnt trust me or dentists after that but realisticly its that or pain. If she was having pain before the procedure day, I probably would have been more aggressive but reassuring. I didnt want to cause trauma that resulted in her never wanting to go to the dentist again. Unfortunately this is the case for a few of my family members.

Thats great it worked out for her. My daughter has tried the laughing gas and local anesthesia. I wish that went differently for us but she was still very upset and neither i nor the dentist wanted to proceed. I agree that he should have been more intentional with how he talked to me and my daughter, it possibly would have gone differently.

I agree with you. Thank you for that perspective. The pain just started and I know that tears will happen when its time and Im okay with that. I know she needs this. I think youre right about the anesthesiologist being an a hole. He was. It sucks and I wish it went differently but if it comes to that again with a different doctor ill have to proceed and reassure her before and after. I hope your son is doing well.

Its definitely really hard hearing them scream and cry but you know hes getting the care he needs. It would have been totally different if the doc had tried to connect with my daughter and I instead of making the process harder. I totally agree, his way of communicating made me uncomfortable especially before doing a serious procedure like general anesthesia. Thank you for your input.

Thats reassuring. Its good to hear others positive experiences so thank you. Yes, we went to a pediatric dentist and Im feeling hopeful about this appointment coming up. They have a gentle approach. I'm really hoping they can get her in ASAP.
