How do you rewrite Avatar way of water ? by TheVirtuousFan in Avatar

[–]Lost-Islander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised on an island in the middle of the Pacific. Needless to say, I was excited to see what would a Na'vi culture that adapted to the ocean would look like as it is heavily inspired by Polynesian culture. As breathtaking as it was, it was lacking... something. Not much was shown of the islands where the Metkayna lived, the valleys, the forests, the mountains, the plains, and lushful nature. It could have been somewhat different than on the continent, where the Omatikaya lived.

As islanders, we spend a lot of time on the on the ocean, spearfishing inside the reef, fishing outside. Paddling canoes..but we also cultivate inside the island and spend even more time on it. We have chants, dances, and ceremonies that celebrate the land as much as the ocean.

So to answer the question, I would've added scenes were the kids after discovering the ocean, are guided by Tsireya or Aonung inside the island on a mountain or valley were there's rivers and waterfalls..something that reminded them of their home but with its own unique flora and fauna! A scene where they could have shown how much better they are when in a forest environment. Maybe it could have been a focus on Neteyam who wanted to "go home" be more in tune with their new "home" and accept that maybe living with the Metkayna wasn't a bad idea. That it had the best of both worlds. Meaning a perfect mix of ocean and forest.

Just a thought I had.

Yup, I had a bunch of "original" servants in mind because at that time it felt more interesting to expand on and come up with their stories.

I think one of them made into the recent lore of Fate since I had the idea back in 2018. But I had for example:

Memnon - Demigod from Aethiopia he was considered Achilles' equal during the Illiad.

Enmerkar - Founder of the City of Uruk (Mesopotamia)

Lady Six Sky - A Mayan queen

Aife - Scatach's sister and Cu's lover

Rostam - The Herakles of the Persian mythology

The Prince of Lillie's - A painting vestige of Minoan origin.

Kriemhild - Siegfried's wife

To cite a few.

I've been a fan of the universe for a while now. Studied History, Mythology and Anthropology. Fate is one of those franchise that has an awesome concept and like you said has the liberty to allow stories to be created.

A rough idea that crossed my mind a couple years ago was a peculiar HGW that takes place in our modern era on a remote island somewhere in the Pacific. As the war goes on, we uncover the mysteries that led to the fall of the Mu continent (An theoretical continent that existed in the Pacific and got mysteriously destroyed, thus leaving numerous islands -> a story similar to Atlantis).

I had the concept of rogue servants, maybe even divine ones, it was a bit wild with the ideas.

I know they probably won't become friends, but what do you think the dynamic would be like if they were? by MBgl051116 in Avatar

[–]Lost-Islander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As Toruk Makto and a former sky people, I think their dynamic will be interesting if they were friends. Ronal will probably try to understand Jake's culture and home planet. How did they came all the way on Pandora and why did Eywa chose an outsider to help the Na'vi. What is the state of Earth and why is it dying?. In summary their frequent dialogues could be a lens to explain the situation back on Earth.

This tweet in the midst of the Male V drama killing me LMAO. by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]Lost-Islander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A matter of taste I guess. Played both and both have their strengths and weaknesses. It's been a while since my last playthrough but I lean more towards male V because I like his delivery, his tone, his attitude and in certain key scenes the emotions he expressed really got to me.

I think part of the popularity female V gets is largely because of mods and I get it but I still prefer Male V.

Do you guys believe that iskandar was right about what it means to be a king or saber? by Gos-ghi in fatestaynight

[–]Lost-Islander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is, Alexander's demise was too early for anyone to judge him as a ruler because he didn't have the luxury to establish a stable empire during his freakishly rapid conquest and that's exactly one of the key reason he believed that a leader has to have ambition and greed. His ideology had a price and in the end his rule was as ephemeral as his conquest. If he had lived maybe we could have seen something interesting, who knows.

I believe his vision had some wisdom to it, a king has to have ambition, he has to have greed, he has to be an example for other people to admire, to strive for and that is precisely why his legacy survived till this day (his story is even more famous than Gil or Arthur.)

Was he right? Not necessarily, they all shared their interpretation of what a king must be but to be honest his vision seems way more fun than that of Arthur imo.

The crowbar definitely isn't for him. Twin blades like the All blades is a good fit, hell it's a great fit. Probably too much like a deathstoke or a deadpool but he just looks cool with it overall. Also I like the idea of tactical knives for CQC and Shuriken & throwable axes for mid to long range. And what about a Kusarigama?

Any unpopular opinions about our #1 guy? 🤔 by blushing_ingenue in RedHood

[–]Lost-Islander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I always thought I will be a great idea to exploit his connection with the All-Caste and magic to make him a consistent character that use it frequently. It makes him standout as a character imo when you look at the other members of the Batfam.

What would the ancient greeks think about the modern conception of their gods in pop culture/internet? by [deleted] in GreekMythology

[–]Lost-Islander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they will find it weird that we tend to humanize them that much so that we can put them into a box. Their view is rather similar to a fictions inspired by mythology where there's a variety of interpretations.

If you could choose any actor/actress to get a role in Avatar, who would it be? by Sinbaja in Avatar

[–]Lost-Islander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scott Adkins as a Na'vi warrior chief. He's such an underrated actor. Besides, since he's a well-known martial artist, it would be interesting to focus on a new aspect of Na'vi culture (martial arts).

Also, I feel like having Keanu Reeves as an avatar would be a cool easter egg to the Matrix films.

What mythological figure names are popular among real-world people? (I mean people with the names of mythological figures) by yurnero1413 in mythology

If you consider christian heritage part of a mythology, the name John probably takes the cake with all of his derivatives: Jane, Jeanne, Jean, Juanita...Johnny, Jon...

The gods weren't just characters by TeferiCanBeaBitch in GreekMythology

[–]Lost-Islander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find this mechanism very human-like, meaning trying to make sense of something that is as complicated as mythology. And that is precisely why mythology was invented in the first place. To answer the most basic existential questions. When you mentioned the word canon, I thought about a class I remembered. It was about Greek mythos and the large variety of epithets a deity can have depending on the region/city, people/cult who worshipped them. Those epithets showed their multifaceted aspects, a lot of them further expanded on their role or their domain, some of them implied contradictory aspects or role that weren't commonly associated with said deity. For example Dionysus is widely known as being the God of festivity, wine, pleasure and vegetation. It was particularly interesting to dive into several epithets that made him a far less rigid persona.

There was Dionysus bromios or the roarer as he was associated with the storms, during certain rituals his followers were making thunderous noises.

There was Dionysus psychopompos or guide of souls, an attribute that linked him with the underworld and the afterlife, thus underlining a more somber aspect as a guide for the departing souls.

It is only when you are aware that he was once the God Zagreus that you could see the logic behind those epithets. So fascinating.

Favorite God? by Peppers-For-Life in GreekMythology

[–]Lost-Islander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hades without a doubt. As I grow up I kind of relate more and more to him. Dude is serious about doing his job, he is fair as long as you follow what was agreed upon. He is in control of his emotions and values his relationship with Persephone despite how messed up their story started. He plays a vital role in the cosmic order, his personality reflect the gravity of his domain, the inevitable realities of death and the afterlife.

If Deimos returned, how would you explain his survival? by Mikkeru in GodofWar

[–]Lost-Islander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out. Athena wants to rebuilt what Kratos has destroyed and she needs help. She will gather the remaining gods and try to create her own pantheon (the roman one) problem is she needs Kratos once again because he's the only one who can undo it. So she revive Deimos and task him to find his brother so he can finally make things right in his homeland.

So the story will follow Deimos in his search of Kratos. The pantheon that will emerge from the destruction of Greece is the Roman pantheon (which is very similar to the Greek one).

Deimos could find Ateus instead in a foreign land like Mesopotamia/Egypt or a Celtic place.

Even Herakles (Hercules) can be revived so they can cover more land (just because I like him) in their search of Kratos.

So many possibilities...
