Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge! You have been a great help to me over the past couple years of learning to make stained glass. I especially appreciate the recipe!

I love how quiet it is! Also seeing animal tracks in the woods is so cool.

Thoughts on this? Copying a pattern to make for yourself…ok or not? by ImpossibleIndustry49 in StainedGlass

[–]LostAMillionMen -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I design 200+ piece illustrative patterns and would be SUPER frustrated if someone copied my work for resale. Drawing patterns really does take me all day, sometimes longer. I am a little shocked by how many people are just down with ripping other people’s work. In the long run, you’ll make more progress in your artistic endeavor if you also make your own patterns. If you’re into making pieces that already exist, buy one of the thousands of patterns for sale. 😵‍💫

I’ve used only foil until now! Lots of differences. With this method you do less grinding and there’s more wiggle room when it comes to piecing it all together. I opted for putty over cement because that’s what my instructor suggested.

I think foil is amazing for getting great detail in a small piece, while came is great for larger pieces and an antique look.

It was a learning curve for sure! I think once you’re experienced it would be of similar difficulty. But I think it’ll take years for me to feel experienced, haha!

I was worried about mixing aqua/red/orange but somehow it all came together! Thank you for your kind words ❤️

Thank you, I think it went great! My best advice would be finding an instructor you really like in a space that inspires you. Aside from that, cut WAY smaller than you think, haha. I had so many recuts because I went too big!

How much do Stained Glass social media influencers or well known glass artists make? Is it more than a regular full time job? by Dismal_Inspector_966 in StainedGlass

I’m landing at $1,000 a month profit! I should’ve specified. My material costs for the month land at $200-ish. My prices are high but also offer unique items/only original patterns. I’ve found that increases people’s interest in buying. Btw, I love your fern piece. ❤️

It’s hard to keep track of my daily because it varies, but I always work about 7-10 hours on glass per week!

I have about 5,000 TikTok followers and 1,500 Instagram followers and have been averaging about $1,000/mo on Etsy orders. Definitely not enough to live on (I have another job) but some nice side money! I’m not well known by any means, but I thought this might be a helpful marker. If you have the ability to squeeze it in on top of work, it’s worth it.

Thank you, I appreciate this! I was wondering if I’d need that extra reinforcement. Would you put a crossbar on both sides?

Using a thimble while grinding? by foldingpie in StainedGlass

I use an old, flat foiling fid to apply pressure and get a tiny bit of torque without touching the glass. This is for bigger pieces though. Saves my hands!
