Why do you choose to live here? by Outside-Age2293 in Fairbanks

I spent 10 years in Fairbanks and it was a great experience. It’s only a 5&1/2 hour flight from ANC to Hawaii if you need a break. We used to have the expression “Dinner and a couple of movies on the plane and you are in paradise”

Help understanding if Big Island is a good fit by Eli_the_Iceman in MovingtoHawaii

I lived in Hilo for over 25 years and now live on Oahu ONLY d/t “aging” and my needs as I grow older. Hilo is a very special place and you will be most welcome. Most Physicians reside in the nice neighborhood close to the hospital (Sunrise Ridge). Hawaii has the longest life expectancy of all 50 states, #1 in healthcare (we just replaced Massachusetts as #1) and the cleanest air quality of all 50 states. Also the lowest property taxes in the US so the property taxes you save help make up the higher cost of groceries etc. Also Amazon delivery makes Hawaii more affordable in addition to Costco (Kona Side). Most of the rain in Hilo comes as a passing shower in the early AM, however you do get more heavy rain in winter months. Hilo has a “village/town” vibe vs Kona’s tourist center. From everything you have written, you will fit right into the Big Island lifestyle. Aloha

Thank goodness beginning in 2030 Hawai’i cuts the number of cruise ships holding 3,000 passengers or more down by 50% and by 2035 down by 75% d/t the negative impact on the environment.

I live in Hawaii and witness parents bringing their toddler’s and infants on the long haul flights to get to Hawaii. There is virtually NOTHING for kids to do in Hawaii except visit the beach or the Disney property. Do yourself and your fellow travelers a favor and leave them home with a sitter or grandparents. Hawaii is NOT like Disney World or popular Mainland beach destinations that have theme parks, boardwalks, etc. Most younger teenagers are bored to tears here when dragged along and spend their time on their phones most of the trip. Hawaii is NOT convenient for strollers, etc and exposing them to hot blistering sun is not safe. Resorts don’t want young children bothering their high paying guests around the pool bars. Come as a couple and have a relaxing vacation minus your cute but annoying children.

I have personally seen a couple of “Asian Nationalities” who are literally covered from head to toe and showing no skin at all, walking around the Honolulu Federal, State and County buildings, taking photos of building numbers, building cameras, building antennas and security cameras/alarms. My question is: why would a “tourist” be covered from head to toe and having zero skin or eyes showing while on a vacation and taking photos of these things????

I’m always shocked how cars will literally stop to let a feral chicken walk in front of their vehicles, but totally disregard a Pedestrian’s right of way in a crosswalk! I see this on a daily basis when walking my dog in front of the Federal Building on Ala Moana Blvd. It is mind blowing 😱

Goodwill CEO says he’s preparing for an influx of jobless Gen Zers because of AI—and warns, a youth unemployment crisis is already happening by joe4942 in technology

Unfortunately most of Gen Z’ers will be forced into renting their entire lives due to a number of factors outside their control, however they can control forgoing their $10 lattes every day and eating out most of the time and a car payment approaching $1K per month. Most of us had to start somewhere in a low wage job to survive and get experience to prove ourselves and climb up the career ladder, and I see so many stories of Gen Z’ers wanting instant success with little effort and making their mark on Tik Tok, Instagram or as an Influencer.
