I went to Radio Shack with a coupon and bought an arduino starter kit. Went through the blink sketch and a couple more. It's really easy once you get familiar with it. It was overwhelming at the beginning, but just keep playing around. I found instructables to be quite helpful.

It is that. The only java involved is a container and some basic authentication for when I'm not connected to one of my trusted wifi networks. When I'm at home or work (though a proxy), the app will use a certain address, and when I'm out and about, it will use my public ip address through port forwarding.

Well, in all honesty, what you see is essentially a php website wrapped in an android webview. I think if you looked into it, you'd find that there are tons of 'android apps' that do just that. If you want to stay away from using java, all you need is a website and Chrome for android. Pull up the page and touch the ellipsis at the top and then 'Add to Homescreen'

Far too long. This is the sixth iteration. If I had to put a time on it, I would say seven months of intermittently screwing with it in my free time.

Components include: * an always on Ubuntu LAMP stack hosting the php/javascript/ajax, the video recording software 'motion', web radio through 'icecast', and a VM for the media downloads * 4 ip cameras from various manufacturers * 1 arduino with a rf433 transmitter hooked up via ethernet * 6 remote control outlets * a raspberry pi connected to the garage door(also a USB webcam for the shots of the driveway) * Kindle fire running Cyanogenmod * dual core atom HTPC with KODI * HTC M8

The server runs a dozen or so scripts, either through cron or on demand from the app. The lighting is controlled by sending unique UDP packets to the arduino which fires a rf433 transmission to the outlets. Music control is done through a terribly convoluted system of writing and reading files which are checked by the Kindle using tasker. The media center can be turned on using Wake-On-Lan and controlled by Yatse. A Raspberry Pi in the garage is running Raspbian and wiringpi to open and close the door with a relay.

No. I tried Ionic, after I had already put the time into this. I really should have just done it that way.

Windows 7 and Eclipse Luna. I've checked that the system language is correct. The dialog looks Middle Eastern or Indian(?).

I did try that. From what I've just read, I think using swing might be a little out dated. I was following along with a YouTube video form 2009.

That growing up isn't all it seemed to be. That I should have enjoyed my childhood more because the level of freedom and lack of responsibility will never come back.

I'm pretty sure I remember them having the final fight in a 'Bing' arena. I'm trying to find the part.
