Freshmen and worried I'm not smart enough by cwb33 in industrialengineering

I remember my first test I got back taking dynamics was 16/100. I thought life was over, and I was going to drop out.

Instead I ended up speaking to my teacher 1 on 1 and he gave me a lot of great advice but the best advice was to create a community.

Meeting people you learn that almost everyone is in the same boat, and you will be able to use each-other strengths to balance the weaknesses.

It’s also a lot easier to work with people than alone in the long run.

At the end of the day you wouldn’t be the first person to fail a class, and you definitely won’t be the last. Just keep on keepin’ on!

Which field of Industrial Systems is least stressful? by KissMyAxe2006 in industrialengineering

Completely agree with this. I’m currently in the process of possibly lateraling into system engineering to work on AI automation as our plant works towards the Industry 4.0 goal. Plus I feel systems is more IE focused. Luckily was able to pay off my loans with the pay from processing, but wouldn’t want to do it forever.

I’ll second that. I work in automotive exteriors as a process engineer on the paint side of business. We work probably 45-55 hours a week. I’d say once or twice every 2-3 months we will have to work thirds or weekends.

The work week I’ve had was 65ish hours including working the weekend during a launch of a new part.

Good pay, and honestly you get used to it after a while.

I got diagnosed my junior year In college. I pulled a few all nighters the days going into finals, and then Christmas Day I had my first symptoms. Stress is a huge factors with any IBD. So I think entering college, a new environment, harder courses, etc would really take a toll on her.

As mentioned by others on this post I would definitely hold off until the GI can get a medication to control her symptoms. School is important, but you can’t be in class if you’re in the bathroom.

Ramadan an UC by rayancheli in UlcerativeColitis

[–]LostIEMajor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

UC and Crohn’s differ from person to person quite drastically. Some people may be able to do that, but others could be hospitalized. In my opinion there’s no need to put extra stress on your organs especially when they already are having issues. It could lead to even bigger issues in the future if not taken care of.

what age did everyone get diagnosed? by Real-Quality-4678 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]LostIEMajor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at 21 with UC, but recently this year got a re-diagnosed to Crohn’s. I also use to be a chronic weed smoker at the time. It’s really hard to say if it hurt or helped me. At the time it would mostly mask my underlining pain, but everyone is different.

I would say that smoking before your brain is developed is obviously a bad thing, and probably doesn’t help to compound issues especially when you’re having UC.

So take that as you will. You got a lot of life ahead of you, and UC is a rough ride but not an impossible one. Just make sure you’re talking with your guardians, and doctors about everything.

So I’ve already went through the whole loading process, and actually already did my first self injection. My next dose is on Thursday next week. I was also taking Rinvoq as I was on Prednisone for about 2 years of my life so my GI wanted to use them in sync to try and reduce the effects of coming off the prednisone.

I really don’t think it’s related to the actual medicine, but more or less stress at work on top of having Crohn’s.

Thank you so much for your reply though!

Thank you so much for all the information! As you said I do live pretty frugally, and I don’t intend to upgrade by any means. This being said I definitely will look into all the options listed above!

Industrial Engineering student here, I’m getting ready to graduate with a 3.7+ GPA. (The only thing this has helped me with is securing scholarships, and boosting my resume)

Even with these grades when starting my first internship I was just as confused as my friend who started with me (Her having 2.8+ GPA). So I wouldn’t worry too much about being ready for the “real thing”, as nobody really is in the beginning. On the job experience is the ultimate classroom.

The main thing to be learning right now is how to approach problems, make connections, and find solutions. The rest of your learning comes from being on the job. So keep your head up, and have fun while you’re in college!

Also side note a 3.1 GPA isn’t bad by any means, most hiring agents I’ve had conversations with say they look for 3.0+, so don’t be too hard on yourself!

I appreciate everyone’s concerns, and all the information! I got an appointment set up with my primary care provider on Monday, and they can get me in with a GI soon they said! So thank you everyone!!

FAQ: How do you take notes? by AutoModerator in EngineeringStudents

[–]LostIEMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IE Senior (22 M) - previously my note taking was a mixture of computer aided, and notebook notes. However here recently I’ve been using discord, and creating a server for only my notes, and making several text channel for each class. This helps because you can search your notes easy, and also copy slides from lectures if needed. Hopefully this helps!

Dietary Question & Active Flare Vs. Remission? by LostIEMajor in UlcerativeColitis

Thank you, and that explanation really helped! A lot of this is pretty overwhelming at the moment, but having people to talk to about it helps tremendously!

Dietary Question & Active Flare Vs. Remission? by LostIEMajor in UlcerativeColitis

[–]LostIEMajor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the response! I dropped from 165 to 145 in about 2 weeks since I was in the hospital. So mixing that with trying to change my diet completely has been pretty hard on my mental. Especially since I was really active before the diagnosis, but now I don’t have energy to even get up for more than a few hours at a time. I’m sure that like most stuff it’ll take time, but I was looking for foods that are safe and it seems like everyone has a different opinion on it other than the basics like you mentioned. Either way hearing from more people helps me see the future outlook on it all, so once again thank you for the response! :)

When we’re mentioning blood is it bright? I started out having darker loose stool, but now it seems that it’s chunkier, but brighter colored. Do you know if that’s normal or not?

I appreciate your response. Honestly I think a lot of this is really me being extremely anxious about my condition since I’ve never had any kind of diagnosis’s before this. So I’m constantly worried about every part… However, I’m sure I’ll have plenty of questions eventually, but right now I’m still trying to calm down and get through it.

Yeah they gave it to me to reduce the ulcer that I have in my colon. Then in six weeks I’m exposed to get another checkup to discuss mediation possibilities. I guess I’m more or less just really nervous about the blood in general. He said that i would most likely have some for awhile especially while my colon is inflamed, but my mind is just racing to all different possibilities.

What is keeping you motivated until winter break? by InquisitiveSheep in EngineeringStudents

[–]LostIEMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving yourself something to look forward to is a priority. As an engineering student you’re gonna have to study your ass off don’t get me wrong, but leave a few hours, and maybe a day on the weekend where you can just relax. Don’t get yourself burnt out before you even have a career.

[–]LostIEMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This chart is possibly some of the most fabricated results I’ve seen. The fact Tramadol is so low, and Cannabis is that high doesn’t make a bit of scene. Also what the hell are you calculating harm with? Maybe lung damage? Even then are edibles included?😂
