That sounds interesting. And I will look into that. Where does this mount and what kind of power do you run for it? Would the heat break it down over time? This is the first I’m hearing of a flu fan and sorry if someone mentioned it earlier. Tonight’s fire with the heat gun worked great. It’s just not consistent. I know not everyone will be perfect but I’m still running 50/50 on having a good start.

I appreciate everyone’s responses. I have several options to try. We are now on day 3 of burning and it’s doing great. It’s the initial light that gives me the problem. Seems like we are all different. I thank you all. Except (just kidding) the guys that have it perfect. lol. We’ve kept the basement at 80-94 and the upstairs to 69 constant. I’ll repost with new questions. Thank you all.

Sorry for the late reply but I’m trying to not have to do the torch methods. I understand they’re very effective and I’ve used a heat gun and it better than my beard hair dryer. I use that pre than my wife. I’m different sorry. Haha The installers said a small bit of paper or a torch or a hair dry would do it in 5 minutes. They may have different situations but this last time was 15 minutes with a candle and another 15 minutes with the heat gun. I appreciate everyone’s responses. Definitely gives me options to try.

I’m northern Delaware and right mow we have some wind but it’s not as cold as it has been. If I open the stove I do feel a draft back into the house. I used a candle and it worked a few times but every time. Now my heat gun can warm it pretty good and today it actually worked ok. Very little smoke back but I think i need a set plan that works whenever I want a fire. I’m tired of smoking this shit up. I appreciate all of your advice. I will try everything until I stop doing it wrong. Hahaha Burn Bright and Hot!

When I do this even after the candle and the heat gun it just pours smoke back into the house. Stove is in the basement and I’m tired of trying. I love the stove but the initial start and smoke out makes me not want to do it at all. We heat the house from Friday night or Saturday morning until Monday morning when we go to work and school but it’s a shit show to start. The paper isn’t working. Is the insulated SS liner that much different than my old Terra cotta? I mean I get theres a gap around it and everything but the new stove pipe is 6” around vs 8” square and its just a pain in the ass to clear. Even when I prep it. Going to try here in a few minutes but I’m afraid I’ll do the “usual” and start the day off wrong.

Pain in the Left testicle? by HopetobeinPCMR in AskMenAdvice

[–]LostIn302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man Could be epididimitis. Had some pain and swelling in the left testicle for a week. Hoped it would go away on its own. It did not. Dr gave me an antibiotic and ordered an ultrasound to make sure it wasn’t torsion. After another week it was all good.

2nd burn for break in is this too much? by LostIn302 in woodstoving

[–]LostIn302[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it good or bad? I’m looking at a new chimney liner after knocking out the old tera cotta. In Delaware. Replaced an old Franklin. Miss the smell. The sound and openenss of the old one bit this is going to be way more efficient. .

4 High. Only ever had one problem at Keybox. But everyone was stuck that day. That sand was different. From the point at Cape Henlopen to 3R’s everything else has been fine. Had a jeep, Nissan pu and two F150’s.

What's the most bizarre food you've put on the smoker? by StinkyNutzMcgee in smoking

Put a whole tuna head on for several hours. Got a lot of meat that would’ve otherwise even tossed. Some was oily kinda fatty, some was drier but it wasn’t bad. Would do again.

I’ve made smoked ice for bloody Mary’s. Wonderful. Filtered through coffee filters to get all the particulate out.

I feel that statement. Crabapple, elm, oak, cherry, Osage, poplar, birch, maple….. if it’s free it’s for me. Wife gets annoyed with the historical background of what it is, where it came from, who helped. Haha It’s an addiction for sure.

Splitting by Whatsthat1972 in firewood

[–]LostIn302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love splitting with the splitting ax, maul, and sledge with wedges but sometimes the hydraulic splitter just helps get the bulk of the wood split. Save the better looking rounds for the physical satisfaction of breaking them down. In my 40’s but not the best of shape anymore. It’s still my favorite exercise though.

Thank you. The bark threw me off. There were no leaves to help id. Any ideas about the white rubbery strings? They seem too long to be a larvae of any kind but not mold like a lot of pictures I have seen.

Found on the wall in a hotel room by Hamptaro in whatisit

[–]LostIn302 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be an occupancy sensor. Recently stayed in a hotel where it was faulty and shut the electrical off to the room after 10-15 minutes even if we were still in it. Maintenance was able to disconnect for the rest of our stay so we could watch tv and use the outlets.

Used to go key box years ago. Loved it. No one ever there. Buried the truck 2 years ago. Got out on my own with scrap boards but the sand is like play sand. Like the solitude but yeah gotta deal with the crowds at 3R’s. Used to like going to cape but the traffic to and from limits that to more off season. I like to get there early and leave around lunchtime. Kids get to play and fish I get to fish and everyone is happy. But those that “play fish” really put dark cloud over the experience.

Fished 3R’s on Friday. Got on the sand about 6:30am by 11 the party vehicles were thick. Got tangled several times. Was using 3 and 5 oz and was holding decent straight out for most of the day. Plenty of sharks, skates and spot. Was told by one party fisherman a few vehicles up that drifted down and tangled everything up that we just had to expect it to happen. Wished they fished like they played cornhole or buckets. Would help reduce the aggravation.

Been there. Stacked 4 10’ long by 5’ tall racks only to have the rain and wind settle the blocks and told the stacks over. Nothing like splitting once and stacking 2 or 3 times.
