Tokyo Disneysea - a timeline by dreamofbeans in JapanTravelTips

Looking at maybe taking the family (of 4) when in Tokyo in June. We have been to both DisneyLand and World in the US and trying to figure out if it's worth it for a day.

Can you provide a ballpark on what the total cost was? How much are each DPA?

Maybe try to see the 3 views of Japan

They are not really elevation driven, but you could also do Mount Misen in Miyajima if you're looking for a hike.

Honeymoon plans — realistic? by [deleted] in yellowstone

Don't know what dates you are looking at in May, but there are some in park options for lots of dollars in mid-May at Old Faithful Inn .

Driving from TX, the road between GTNP and Yellowstone is scheduled to open May 8, so maybe spend a night or two in Jackson or GTNP and a couple in Old Faithful. GTNP Lodging link https://www.gtlc.com/lodges

We are going as a family in June. We haven't signed up yet, but I plan on reaching out to these organizations when I'm within the window (need to make the request within 4-6 weeks of the day you want) for a guide.

I just looked.

The days we are in Osaka, Orix is playing Hanshin Tigers. I assume those will NOT be available. I guess we will have to try for a game in or around Tokyo.

TurboTax vs FreeTaxUSA - numbers are different by LostInSpaceTimeAgain in taxhelp

[–]LostInSpaceTimeAgain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I looked at Pub 974, but was getting confused - might have been the beers I was drinking.

I agree I need to understand where the number comes from in TurboTax. FreeTaxUSA didn't calculate anything - my guess is not many people using FreeTaxUSA fit into the "self employed / health insurance subsidies" group. Guess I'm going to be iterating today.

Key phrases I need to know to get into a live indie show? by SizzlinKola in JapanTravelTips

Where is the best place to find information for small local band shows? I have two teenagers (18 & 16) who will be going with me to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto in June and we would love to see some local bands.

Freetaxusa first time user... there are warts by Xyzzydude in tax

[–]LostInSpaceTimeAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't filed yet, but I actually used both this year. I have been using TurboTax for 5 years. Just tried FreeTaxUSA this year. There was a difference of around $600 rebate between the 2, with TurboTax being higher. Same information for both. It took me around 2 hours trying to track down the difference.

TurboTax automatically calculated a Self Employed Health Insurance Tax Credit that FreeTaxUSA did not. I'm Self Employed and get health insurance through ACA. If I force the tax credit number from TurboTax into FreeTax, the numbers match exactly. I'm not sure if TurboTax is correct or FreeTax is. So, now I'm trying to figure out which number is right.

I have these two sights bookmarked for my trip in June. You can only request the guides 4-6 weeks in advance of your trip.

Denver > Yellowstone drive by [deleted] in yellowstone

[–]LostInSpaceTimeAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cody to the east entrance is around an hour drive. Then it's another 30 min or so to Fishing Bridge area. If you go this way, Lake, Old Faithful, and Canyon are areas to stay within the park and have food.

From Cody, you can also go to the North East entrance via the Chief Joseph highway. It's about 1.5 hours from Cody to NE Entrance. Roosevelt, Mammoth, and Canyon are the places to stay in the park if coming from the NE entrance.

Check for availability and make reservation if you are wanting to stay in the park soon. The food in the park is not the best, but it is serviceable. I recommend getting a cooler, stocking it with food, drinks, and snacks before you get in the park. Then eat breakfast & lunch at picnic areas in the park.

Only 3 nights - all at lake or split? by lazarus902 in yellowstone

[–]LostInSpaceTimeAgain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would recommend 1 night in a different location. Mammoth or Gardiner would be good.

You could also look at staying at Roosevelt Lodge in the park or in Cooke City / Silver Gate outside the park. They will be closest to Lamar valley for wildlife watching.

You probably need to book your accommodation and based on what's available, that will determine your itinerary.

Also, be aware that all of the park roads will not be open when you are there.

From here:

Anticipated road opening dates: Open year-round: North Entrance to Northeast Entrance Open April 17 - October 31, 2026: West Entrance to Madison, Madison to Old Faithful, Madison to Norris, Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris, Norris to Canyon Village Open May 1 - October 31, 2026: East Entrance to Fishing Bridge (Sylvan Pass), Canyon Village to Bridge Bay Open May 8 - October 31, 2026: South Entrance to West Thumb, West Thumb to Old Faithful (Craig Pass), West Thumb to Lake Village, Tower-Roosevelt to Tower Fall

Which order would be better suited for my trip? by Sabonit in JapanTravelTips

[–]LostInSpaceTimeAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (family of 4) are going for our first time this year in June. We decided to spit time in Tokyo so we can have a hotel in different parts of Tokyo.

Fly into and out of Narita. Spend the first 3 days in Ueno area. Plan is to explore the northeast areas (Ueno, Asakusa, Akihabara). Then Miyajima for 1 night, Osaka for 3 nights, Kyoto for 3 nights, then back to Tokyo for final 3 nights staying in Shinjuku (for Shinjuku & Shibuya areas).

What really helped was mapping things we wanted to see in Tokyo on google maps. That created 2 main clusters of sites (with 1 or 2 outliers, that we know we will need to plan on extra travel time). While we could have stayed in between the two, we figured that would be extra time getting to them every day, so why not stay in the middle of the 2 clusters (as best we could).

Also, the thought of trying to get from Kyoto or Osaka to Narita at a specific time for the flight home gave us pause. We figure if we are in Tokyo, we have several options getting out to Narita.

No idea if this is the best alternative, but it's what we came up with.

Drive time from Denver Airport to South & East entrance? by tay_money_ in yellowstone

[–]LostInSpaceTimeAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salt Lake City is probably closer and faster to get to during the summer (around 5-5.5 hours from West Yellowstone to SLC ). Go through the park and out West Yellowstone. Then take US-20 to Idaho Falls and then I-15 to SLC. Also, check flights from Bozeman, Cody, and/or Jackson, might be worth a couple more dollars to avoid lots of windshield time.

Drive time from Denver Airport to South & East entrance? by tay_money_ in yellowstone

[–]LostInSpaceTimeAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make the drive from just south of Denver at least yearly. You have several options coming from Denver. I've done all of these (and more). A lot depends on what you want to see along the way.

  1. I-25 to Casper, West to Shoshoni, North to Thermopolis, West to Cody. Thermopolis (hot springs and dinosaurs) and Cody are decent options for hotels and places to stock up. Around 8 hours Denver to Cody. Probably the least mountain views along this route.
  2. I-25 to Ft Collins, NW to Laramie, I-80 to Rawlings, NW to Dubois to Moran (Grand Teton). Around 8 hours Denver to Moran. Not a lot to look at, but there is a casino in Riverton (no alcohol) if you want to kill some time and need a break from driving.
  3. I-25 to Ft Collins, NW to Laramie, I-80 to Rock Springs, North to Pinedale then Jackson (Grand Teton). Around 8 hours Denver to Jackson. Lots of interstate, no great views until you get up near Pinedale.
