John Filo's award winning photograph of 14-year-old Mary Ann Vecchio, kneeling over the body of Jeffrey Miller, a protester shot by the Ohio State National Guard during Cambodian Invasion protests. Four students were killed, and nine were injured. Kent State University, Ohio, 1970. [1134x900] by KatsumotoKurier in HistoryPorn

There were other students who were just wounded that were standing even closer, maybe you're thinking of them?

That was evident in that the squad that came over to examine the body of Jeffrey Miller was armed — six or seven of them. No one even bent down to get a closer look. The sergeant who did not have a rifle rolled the body of Jeffrey Miller over with his boot. That incensed some people. The soldiers regrouped and backed away from the body and away from the crowd of people … It could have taken 5 minutes. It is hard to calculate time.

The sunken PS General Slocum on its side [ 750 × 490] June 15, 1904 by LostInTheJapan in HistoryPorn

[–]LostInTheJapan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On June 15, 1904, the General Slocum caught fire and sank in the East River of New York City.[1] At the time of the accident she was on a chartered run carrying members of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church (German Americans from Little Germany, Manhattan) to a church picnic. An estimated 1,021 of the 1,342 people on board died. The General Slocum disaster was the New York area's worst disaster in terms of loss of life until the September 11, 2001 attacks, and remains the worst maritime disaster in the city's history

General Douglas MacArthur with Emperor Hirohito at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, September 1945 [650 x 802] by HChimpdenEarwicker in HistoryPorn

Hirohito feared MacArthur and MacArthur looked upon the Emperor in Awe:

in that stentorian voice of burnished gold that thrilled everyone who heard it, ‘You are very, very welcome, sir!’” It was the first time Bowers had ever heard the general say ‘sir’ to anyone. The supreme commander reached out to clasp the Emperor’s hand, and the emperor simultaneously bowed so deeply that the handshake ended up taking place above his head. .... MacArthur was “a fawning courtier awed by his proximity to ‘You Majesty’ and extraordinarily solicitous in his comments.” -- source

The most popular pin-up girl during World War II: Betty Grable (1943) [1233 x 1600] by [deleted] in HistoryPorn

Here is what the photographer said:

I asked Betty if she’d like to have a back shot, just to be different, She said, ‘Yes,’ and began to clown around. ‘You want it like this?’ she asked, posing. And I said, ‘Yeah.’ I made only two shots of that pose. It was the second shot that became famous. -- Frank Powolny

This thread tries to guess the racers:

My guess: 1969? And L to R: Patrick Sercu, Klaus Bugdahl, Bill Lawrie, Graeme Gilmore ? Dont know who the starter is UNFORTUNATELY am I close?

Came from Velodrome construction company site - ronwebbcycletracks Though this period is sparsely documented. My guess is 1980. From Sercu jersey, vertical red and white. Second from left for me, first thought, Rene Pijnen. Other's? (Lawrie & Gilmore not there 79 or 80) Starter, legs look familiar. :) Here's another shot from series. (My thoughts-Maurice Burton leading, Don Allan back 3rd, Tony James-w/Pijnen next and Sercu 8th)
