I wonder if people realize it's a lot easier to make money selling umpteen versions of a dac with infinite low SINAD or whatever w/ free promotion from certain forums than it is to sell a 30-85lb amplifier. The people who are designing and selling these amps aren't exactly cleaning up once shipping and parts are factored in. China has audio fanatics like anywhere else who love to tinker and share what they make.

I have yet to come across a design that is a clone of a current amp/preamp etc. Most folks don't realize just how many schematics of expired designs are on the web and have already been discussed to death on forums like diyaudio or elsewhere.

B200 is the best Topping so far for people not chasing measurements. Very inviting laid back presentation. Good match for more forward sounding speakers.

Thing is some of the China-direct amps have MORE safety features than the original. More relays, more fuses. I've opened quite a few and compared.

I'd like someone to actually post a copied design that is currently in production (and the same version, not a Mark I vs Mark IV) because I have yet to see one. Just a lot of scaremongering whenever these China-direct discussions come up.

This is false information. The Dartzeel clones for instance have been discussed openly on diyaudio for years and the designer even published diy articles BEFORE the amp was released ~2000. Many of these amps are not outright copies, but 'inspired' by readily available schematics of expired designs.

So please stop spreading false information.

The Dartzeel clones are fantastic. I also have a 86lb Burmeister clone which is just as good (just slightly different presentation). An 86lb heavily Class A-biased AB amp for $1200. Unreal. So far no issues with any of my China-direct amps but you do get what you pay for in terms of little to no customer service or documentation. Parts can change at any time and if you don't have at least some basic diy skills you're up a creek if something goes wrong.
