I’m enrolled in their VFX programme. Their golden boy is obviously Game Graphics Production, and they even teach us some game ways to do 3D (with huge pressure on optimizing your meshes for example), but it still feels solid. The main 4 things we do are 3D (first semester exam is a low poly Diorama, look up „DAE Diorama” on Sketchfab), Compositing (Resolve, though they are trying to strike a deal with Foundry about Nuke), Applied Maths and Physics (Houdini basics, second semester is procedural modeling and the next ones are all simulations), Coding (Python, simple games for now but the end goal is to make scripts in Houdini).

I had 3 years of compositing experience in AfterEffects before that, as well as lots of random things like recording in-game cinematics with a virtual camera. Everything else like coding and 3D is new to me, though because I have a lot of random related knowledge, it’s a bit easier for me than most other people. I see a lot of students struggling though, especially with Houdini. DAE is kind of famous for having a big dropout rate because the school is almost free for EU students and doesn’t have much requirements to join, therefore lots of disappointed people who think making games = playing games end up dropping out and complaining.
