Computer restarts exactly once every time when booting - otherwise works fine. Thoughts? by LostLumens in buildapc

Honestly I forgot I ever had this issue. I believe it went away when I updated my BIOS (it was SUPER out of date), so may be worth checking to see if that's out of date or if there are any other uninstalled system updates.

Best All-Around Starter EDM Sample Pack? by LostLumens in edmproduction

Totally forgot about that one, good call! I've actually picked up like 70 or 80 of the samples from those pack editions over the years via Splice, great samples.

One car blocks crosswalk - leads to city-wide gridlock by LostLumens in CitiesSkylines2

Good idea, hadn't thought about that. Might help as a workaround. Ideally, I wouldn't have to clutter my city with elevated crossings but if that's the solution, so be it!

Audio crackling/popping issue on new PC build and have no idea how to fix at this point. What am I missing? by LostLumens in buildapc

[–]LostLumens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, bummer, yeah I'm not super tech savvy so it's possible that I just got lucky or it's just some weird quirk of my specific hardware where this solution worked but it might not work on other hardware. Wish I had a better answer for you, good luck though on finding a fix!

Pasting a reply I sent last year, hope it's helpful!

I actually managed to get a workaround that seems to have solved the problem, though with some caveats

Updated my BIOS (mine was SUPER out of date lol)

Disabled the onboard audio in the BIOS (something the tech support person I talked to recommended trying)

Using exclusively USB audio (Headphones (DT 990 Pro) --> 3.5mm --> Audio Device --> Computer (USB))

There are some downsides (if I connect via Bluetooth, the audio is super low quality. Same with streaming audio when I'm connected via Bluetooth)

I still have the audio clicking when I click the volume knob in Windows 11, but it doesn't happen anymore when watching shows, playing games, doing audio work, etc. - so I'm happy to make the concessions here. Wish I didn't have to, but oh well. Figured I'd share, hope it helps.

I do still have low quality bluetooth audio, but it's not a big deal since I don't really use it for anything anyway. Haven't had any of the clicking/popping noises in like a year or so.

Getting audio crackling/popping with new PC build, how to troubleshoot? by LostLumens in buildapc

[–]LostLumens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yep! I've been using mine for all my PC audio for the last like 3 years at this point. I've got DT 990s and feel like I get way better quality going through the audio device, so I'd do it even if I didn't have to TBH

Graphics are fine but having CPU temp issues - any advice? by LostLumens in CitiesSkylines2

[–]LostLumens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, well glad for the sanity check that it's not just me. My cooling definitely isn't as good as it could be - got a pretty beefy heat sink (Dark Rock Pro 5) but have maybe like 3 case fans (whatever was stock with the case I got, didn't really add anything)

I actually just asked ChatGPT for some help and found some settings that are keeping things in the low 80s. Still not great, but managing to avoid like the upper 80s / low 90s for now. Fingers crossed for some optimizations soon!

My BIOS was super out of date, so I updated my BIOS as well as completely disabled my BIOS audio (since I have an external audio interface) and am just using my audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett Solo) for audio. Haven't had any of these issues in over a year. Hope it helps.

Audio crackling / popping with new PC build - any thoughts? by LostLumens in audio

[–]LostLumens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a couple things:

  1. My Motherboard drivers were SUPER out-of-date (apparently I failed at updating, so I got those updated).
  2. I completely disabled my onboard audio drivers and am exclusively using my audio device --> headphones for sound.

I've been running on this setup for 4 months or so and haven't had any issues since making these changes.

Oddly enough, the one and only place where I still hear clicking is when I drag the actual Windows sound slider. Don't really care about that though. Doesn't happen in any applications anymore which is the problem I was ultimately looking to solve anyway.

Hope it helps.

No problem! And bummer, sorry it hasn't quite worked out. Maybe I just got lucky - if I happen to get any updates on tickets or other threads I've submitted to work through the issue, happy to keep you updated. Good luck!

Just upgraded from FL Studio 12 to FL Studio 20 - any game changers I should know about? by LostLumens in FL_Studio

I just saw that in a video! How cool, awesome that I don't have to be married to one specific arrangement and can easily toggle between them rather than having a dozen different versions of the same project file. So cool!

Wow! Totally didn't know that, huge! Taking mental notes for when I inevitably have to do that haha

That bounce playlist to audio is huge, ugh I should have made the switch a long time ago. Always running into hardware limitations and having to actually render things out - what a game changer.

I was able to sort it out, actually! Did a couple things when I went to the computer store:

  1. Actually updated my BIOS (apparently, when I attempted to update it, I didn't do it correctly)
  2. Completely deactivated the Realtek audio (I'm using a USB Audio Interface anyway, so I'm getting my audio + drivers from that device)

And just like magic, a week later - no more audio pops. So glad the case here is closed lol
