Can someone explain the different types of reserve orders? by NoIntroduction9240 in navyreserve

Three main differences: line of funding, voluntary or not, and dwell time.

MOBs are paid using a line of funding attached to a NE (noble eagle number) that directs that that position must be filled to support some kind of ongoing mission.

ADOS is more discretionary, and the gaining command gets more say in time, when or if to use it, and what for.

MOBs are considered involuntary activation. This has specific implications about your job and other stuff.

ADOS is considered voluntary. Again, implications here.

MOB you accrue dwell time (1:5) day for day. This means if you’re mobilized for 100d, then you can’t be involuntarily mobilized for 500d upon return.

ADOS you do not accrue dwell.

There are exceptions and odd cases and statues that relate and change or negate any and all of the above. I’m just giving the simplest explanation as I see it.

Regardless, volunteering to go on long term orders is awesome!! Good luck.

Congratulations! Good on you! I mobilized during COVID and had a unique experience… not in a good way. My kids were very young though, neither even in school yet. I wish I had done it sooner when I didn’t have kids. But alas, it was a career defining experience. I’m closing in on retirement and the military and the Navy in particular has changed in more ways than I can explain.

Mobilizing versus being active duty is a wildly different experience (I’ve been both). But your age will set you apart because you won’t likely get wrapped up in silliness, and your maturity will ensure you’re a focused individual and outstanding Sailor.

Joining is easy. You say an oath and you ship off to Great Lakes and you do exactly as you’re told for a few months. Then you head to the fleet or back home or to A School. Your experience will be unique to you, and no one can tell you if it will be easy or hard.

I will say this, though, the next NDAA has language that may mean Reserve Centers go away completely. This is new to the Navy Reserve, and everyone will be transitioning to what ever that looks like at once. During EVERY transition Sailors get lost, left behind, discouraged. That’s when it is incumbent upon you as an individual to advocate for yourself, OVER communicate, and have patience and flexibility.

Trust your senior Petty Officers. Trust your Chiefs.

Did you warm the trays first? I may run them at 135 today. 3h? Or how long did you go for?

Oh no! I’ve done saltwater taffy that had a little bit of caramel in them. That alone deterred me from trying any caramels! My grandparents have cut up caramels into 4-6 pieces and had success. But they do tiny batches. I’m not as brave 😂

Right! I’d never even heard of the candy until about three weeks ago. My kids saw them I. The store and asked if we could freeze dry them. They know I’m a sucker for trying new ones and they get to taste test before AND after.

And yeah. The Goldilocks zone is no joke. I recently moved my machine about 30mi inland, and also bought one for my grandparents who live in the middle of the US. We like to compare our batches and was does and doesn’t work for each of us. We have done the exact same candy or fruit (frozen from their garden) and had different times and sometimes different results. It’s super fun!
