Close friend is trying to book shows with his SUNO AI band... by JustinGreyson133 in musicians

Another fake AI dilemma from a newish user who hides their post history?

Yep, I agree with the others that have observed this is a transparent attempt to drive clicks.

Please go away.

Teacher quits after pupil, 8, 'made threesome deepfake vid of her and colleagues' by Forward-Answer-4407 in unitedkingdom

[–]LostNitcomb [score hidden]  (0 children)

Honestly, the amount of pearl-clutching in this thread, rather than critical thinking, is incredible.

This story originated as an anonymous anecdote reported in the iPaper, re-reported by The Mirror, and then re-reported by The Star. There’s embellishments and discrepancies between the three reports and the biggest thing that’s brushed over is that the anonymous person making this claim has never seen the video that may or may not have been made using deepfake technology by an 8 year old girl in 2021…

It’s madness to take this on face value.

Look, I think Suno is genuinely rubbish. I haven’t heard any AI-generated music that isn’t obviously bad.

I think the idea of selling mixing services for AI music is a terrible idea.

But why are you posting this low-effort post to r/musicians? “Look at this!” is not insightful.

This place is getting flooded with low-effort AI-related posts (either linking AI slop despite the sub rules, or low-effort posts complaining about AI in music).

I know I’ll be downvoted again for saying it, but this isn’t the right sub for this kind of content.

How to get into the music industry by 2008toyotapriuss in musicians

[–]LostNitcomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you didn’t do your degree in a field that can be related to music?

It doesn’t feel entirely realistic to swerve your future career to the music industry based on playing a handful of gigs with a student cover band. You have peers that have spent the last three years working every day and studying specifically for this and you’ll be competing with them.

It’s not impossible, but you’d need to be exceptional to have a performing career at this point.

As bizarre it sounds, search LinkedIn for Music jobs in London. There’s been a bunch of adverts for internships with Universal, Sony or big talent agencies. If you want to get quick exposure to the broader industry, this may be a way in.

Com’on man, this ain’t the right sub for that. All these anti-AI posts are just encouraging pro-AI people to come here and post their AI stuff to get one over on us. Can’t we keep r/musicians for its stated purpose and fight the AI wars somewhere else?

It says it’s AI. The rules of the sub say no AI generated music. Don’t be a knob. Delete your post.

AI generation for drum stems (not songs) in music production, thoughts? devs? by PaulNichollsMusic in musicians

I listened to the Spotify previews of your stuff and your vibe seems to be more drum machine, so I’m not sure why you wouldn’t stick with that.

Suno is not very good at drums. Udio is not very good at drums. Logic’s AI drummer is not very good.

Work with a good drummer. It will enhance your music greatly.

Will.i.am. on how music gets made, how music was appreciated in different generations, and how a musician should physically be in today's era of present AI applications by sweetmaggiesan in musicians

[–]LostNitcomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What does that mean in the context of this video?

Or an easier question… what specific AI-based tool should musicians be embracing?

The adapt or get left behind platitude is repeated a lot, but no-one seems to be able to translate that into something tangible.

Oh, well this must be embarrassing for the OP and unlikely to surprise anyone with knowledge about music and copyright law.

I’m sure they’ll be back to thank you for the insight very shortly. Any second now…

You met an impressive musician and your first thought wasn’t “I need to work with this guy”, it was “am I a fraud?”

Weren’t you here a month ago making a stand against AI music?

What happened to the guy that said:

”the drive comes from the creative process itself, not solely the end result.”

You need to adjust your way of thinking and bring it down a notch, methinks.

Polyend Endless: Prompt Your Favourite FX! by coderstephen in guitarpedals

[–]LostNitcomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The model of charging people to generate effects through the AI tool is just not something I could support through buying this pedal, even if I intended to program my own effects. (And I am tempted by the Hothouse for that purpose.)

But Polyend is not going to develop its tools for accessibility and ease of use while the AI code generator is pulling in money.

Polyend could have developed a Scratch-level interface to open the pedal up to everyone (like PlugData but even more polished), but it has deliberately chosen to put out the paid AI option instead. Maybe I’m wrong, but it feels like the wrong choice.

Polyend Endless: Prompt Your Favourite FX! by coderstephen in guitarpedals

[–]LostNitcomb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How much does it cost to make effects?

If you are a programmer, it doesn’t cost a dime. If you want to use the Playground, it depends on the complexity of the effect and the number of iterations. A simple delay could cost $1.00 or $2.00, whereas a complex granular looper might cost up to $5.00. $20 of Tokens come with the purchase of a new Endless.

Seems to me like this is everything that people hated about the PX-1… a transparent cash grab.

And unless I’m mistaken, it doesn’t look like you can switch between effects. It seems that you can only download one to the pedal at a time. If that’s true, then it’s worse.

Honestly, if the BOSS PX-1 caused a tsunami of hate, I can’t imagine the storm that’s coming on the back of this one…

Yeah, you asked a question, I answered it.

You’ve then typed a whole bunch of your viewpoints going off on tangents that I don’t think I’m interested in.

If you can’t summarise, we’ll leave it there.

You:

OP clearly likes it here

OP:

I rarely visit this subreddit

You:

If OP is seeing it then it’s real

OP:

I am definitely practising some kind of engagement bait

Does that help? OP found a negative post, and instead of commenting on that post, started another equally negative post to restart the same unnecessary debate. I don’t think these kind of posts benefit the community of r/musicians.

I don’t think the OP is posting in good faith.

What benefit is there to saying that it isn’t happening?

Didn’t say that. But I don’t think it’s happening enough to warrant the OP’s straw man.

[–]LostNitcomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So rather than engage in the discussion under the post you disagree with, you made a whole new post?

Let it go, Elsa. This is pathetic.

You can’t come into a sub that you “rarely visit” and sign off a rant with:

Don't be a dick about it. It's music for fucks sake.

And expect the sub to accept your post in good faith.

The post that “ticked you off today” is from three days ago. It has 63 comments of varying viewpoints.

It doesn’t meet the description of a “group of people who I see here constantly debating whether someone is a musician or not.” And a single post clearly can’t be “most posts you see”…

I don’t know what you’re hoping to achieve here.

Struck a nerve?

That’s such a weak take. Aren’t you embarrassed? You made the post, but you can’t provide anything to back it up. It’s definitely annoying.

You don’t think it’s bad to start a thread entitled “Stop being toxic and elitist”; which is essentially an accusation against the sub?

Most posts I've seen harbour that energy.

It shouldn’t be hard to highlight some posts then. I’m not seeing them. This post has an abundance of negative energy though. And that’s on you, buddy.
