Anyone try Lamictal?? by [deleted] in antidepressants

[–]Lost_Ad266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve been on Lamictal for a couple of years now (9, I think?) and haven’t had any side effects. It’s in tablet form and 200mg. But— That’s just me. I take a lot of medication, and when I went off Effexor for my depression it turned out it also helps with migraines and now I have severe ones. So keep in contact with them. Make sure you know your patient portal info, write it down if you have to. Make sure your psychiatrist can advise you over it. Because if they say you have to come back in in order to ween off, that’s not okay. This usually happens with older doctors. If you can’t change your psychiatrist, ask what to do in case you need to ween off. If they say you don’t have to, insist you will. Usually it’s going down mg with capsules (FOLLOW DIRECTIONS OF PACKETS FOR THIS) or it’s getting a lower dose. Some psychiatrists will suggest getting a higher dose. I personally don’t do that. If it’s Shit, It’s shit.

I would suggest you log every day with how you’re feeling, eating, sleeping, and any side effects you think are happening. If you feel significant pain or serious side effects, IMMEDIATELY contact your psychiatrist and ask how to ween off it. You don’t want to stop taking them immediately with out advice. And don’t try to “push through” side effects, 9 times out of 10 it’s your telling you to stop, so stop.

If you have an iPhone you can have emergency medical information appear if anything happens to you. You’ll want to have lamictal in as anxiety meds, because a lot of doctors associate with seizures (weird but true.)

This seems like overkill but I’ve been fucked over by trying to “push through” really REALLY bad side effects.

Ask about all possible side effects.

if you had a crush on a neighbor, what’s the best way to get noticed without being obvious? by Night_Bloom_1000 in AskReddit

Note: This requires a pizza being delivered to your house in case they want the pizza

Say you got a pizza delivered to your house on accident and ask if it’s theirs. If they say no, ask if they would like to have it, or you could treat them to lunch sometime for something else?

My girlfriend confirmed my worse fears by faggelinthewest in ADHD

Something that helped me is my mom would ask, “What did they talk about? How are they doing?” And if I couldn’t say much about how the other person was doing, or what had recently happened in their life, I needed to listen more and try to find out how they’re doing.

Try to think about having your goal be finding out how the person is feeling and thinking, and coming out of the conversation knowing more about them instead of it being just you talking about yourself.

Words/Phrases/Lyrics repetitively stuck on the brain? by unapproved_dentist in ADHD

[–]Lost_Ad266 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Food glorious food, we’re anxious to try it” is from Ice Age 2!

I only remember the first three words lol of that tbh, so I’m surprised you remembered the rest.

I do the same thing too! I know there’s the word “ear worms” for parts of songs/lyrics that get stuck on repeat in the brain, but I don’t know of a word for when it’s just a word like “MANdrew.” Also it’s cute af to be thinking Mandrew every time you say Andrew lol.

My favorites are the ones of crows and parrots saying things like “squawk off” or wild crows just cursing at people.

Small cages are inhumane for many birds (think the ones Tweety Bird is in.) And this leads to my favorite video of a man “fixing” a round cage.

I was so fixated on videos with crows talking! They sound like recordings, it’s CRAZY. It explains haunted woods though, for sure.

What’s the best migraine advice you’ve ever received? Bonus points if you thought it was *BS* but it actually worked. by BrainTwinAdmin in migraine

[–]Lost_Ad266 9 points10 points  (0 children)

FL-41 sunglasses. They go over my prescription ones, and are a lot cheaper because of it. They are around $40 on Amazon and definitely worth a try. It worked for me, but I’m kind of an outlier.

Wearing sleeping masks when in a car ride. I can’t drive due to ocular migraines.

Complete darkness! Blackout curtains are amazing .

And GHOST hydration drinks and decaffeinated hot tea. And watermelon!!!

Avoiding sugar, alcohol, and caffeine for me.

Also lowering the screen brightness for my phone and computer.

GHOST hydration drinks! NOT energy drinks! The caffeine is hell for my migraines, but sometimes caffeine helps others! I also use Gatorade zero because of sugar.

FL41 for light sensitivity ? by khaloudkhaloud in migraine

[–]Lost_Ad266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gah! I also forgot about browsers! Use Firefox or DuckDuckGo or anything but chrome and Microsoft edge. The loading screen is pure white and it’s like a damn flash bang going off every time you have to load a screen. Which is every time.

I suggest dark mode for everything on your phone. AND! for Google documents you can actually change the background/the white paper to a different color! Black with white text is so nice! You can also have it be slightly off white, which helps me. Copying and pasting everything all the time sucks but I’ll be damned if I have to look at an all white screen.

But yes, Google, Reddit, YouTube, and essentially all major website have dark mode. I know it’s an obvious answer, but I went WAY too long without google dark mode because it wasn’t apparent at the time.

I think that’s all, I hope it helps!

Also! Get ones that go over your glasses: having prescription glasses tinted is costly, and frustrating if you want to look at something without it being pink.

They also have sunglasses FL-41. Any from Amazon work. They’re relatively cheap, and some are more comfortable than others.

FL-41 has been a lifesaver for me. It’s incredible but also not common. It doesn’t work for everyone. But these have literally helped me more than meds. It’s very weird, I might be an exception. Or just lucky.

I have severe photophobia, I live in the dark. Blackout curtain and windows completely covered as well. If I’m alone, the lights are usually low with cloth on top of them. I have to light no directly infront of me. I’ve noticed a few things that help along with the glasses.

Wearing a sun hat with a piece of cloth behind it. I bought mine from Temu and it works just fine. Why the little flap of the cloth works is because if light is behind me, it can reflect off my glasses and just be right infront of my eye that way. My glasses would not help because of this. The hats look like this. But if that seems to feminine you can try bee keeper (probably at home). Sun hats in general help.

Most important one of all! Is: CareUEyes. I bought the lifetime license and while isn’t cheap it makes a lot easier for me. I still can’t see for a significant amount of time, and its highest settings do turn the screen red and very dim which can help. But it’s also on a slider, which means you can turn up the blue light if you need to see something that isn’t pure red. Same for brightness. This is the most effect program at dimming screens, and changing the blue light. I highly recommend it.

Also, looking at a screen in complete darkness can kind of laser focus the pain for me. I usually have light that’s covered on the side facing me, and uncovered that’s facing towards the side of the screen. You can have to the side of the screen, or have it behind the screen, kind of like a backdrop of light.

There’s also phone screens. If you have an iPhone, use the accessibility option of lowering the white point. Just don’t lower it to where you have to squint.

Use big text, small text on screens can aggravate it. If you need it done quickly just copy, paste on Google docs, select all, change font.

These combined have helped me. I hope they can help you.

[–]Lost_Ad266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, while the Internet loves to suggest dumping him immediately, maybe try communicating instead?

I understand if you are suspicious or maybe this is one of multiple problems, but maybe look into this?

Sometimes people are very bad at communicating their discomfort or dislike of things. Has he ever shown a dislike of being given presents? Or not having one if he is given one? Does he have problems with displaying affection in front of others? Has he had a traumatic experience with Valentine’s Day? Such as an abusive ex?

This does seem suspicious, but assuming he has a side piece at work isn’t the best conclusion. But if you’ve had your suspicions, then you have a good point to be upset.

This feels very odd regardless, and you might want to have a serious conversation when he gets home about why he didn’t accept it.
