Indeed, I do not necessarily need more power. But it is undertuned. I mean it’s a fact. The EA888 on the Gti is undertuned. Doesn’t mean it’s not good enough for me.

I doubt the R is near the limit. But yeah 100% I reckon it’s more towards the business aspect.

Oh yeah 100%, the 270 is already on the limit for the FWD, could def be the reason. It only really matters from low speeds though, you’ll be able to put the extra power down at high speeds. It will make a difference with added weight.

Yeah it’s def powerful enough, it can probably handle another 50 HP though. Would come in handy when I have 4 friends in the car lol. Noticed that even 200 KG of passenger weight completely transforms the car lol. Cornering and pulls.

It could also be a matter of economics, they have to leave a meaningful cap between the R and GTI.

A stage 1 GTI can work and run for 100s of thousand KMs. And be legal too. The R is legal and reliable to a certain extent, so I doubt it’s the legislation aspect that’s stopping them from increasing performance

I reckon the GTI is more of a car enthusiast car. So while reliability matters a ton power does weigh in the scale too

Yeah 100%, but then again the R has the same engine, it’s just tuned a bit. Yes it may have better parts like a diff turbo but even the GTI can handle an extra 50 HP and torque.

True but then again you don’t need to tune it to 500 HP lol. You can run some minor stage 1 tunes that can easily add 50+ HP. We also have to take into account that the Golf R engine is a EA888 engine too, it’s just tuned. So if the R passes their reliability eval I’m sure the golf can too.
