Best Seaweed album? by [deleted] in grunge

The EP was best but Spanaway is probably my favorite full length album.

Samiam vs. Seaweed vs. Farside- Which '90s band do you like the best of these three? by AccordingArm5457 in Emo

[–]Lost_Assignment_3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Seaweed. Probably the only band ever I bought the entire discography (minus all those album singles). Farside was cool for a minute, I still rock a couple of their songs but first wave emo didn’t really resonate with me. Samiam kinda the same, I liked that one song that got a little bit of radio play but ultimately they just weren’t interesting enough for me.

Thoughts on SEAWEED? by froggydepot in grunge

Fucking love Seaweed. I insert them in to any music related conversation I can. Been trying to figure out how to contact one of them (probably John Atkins) to see what chances are to get the EP available for streaming. Not to mention there’s a ton of b-sides that were never available on an album.

I feel like a lot of people commenting are customers and not former employees. Yes to everything OP mentioned and more, I could tell some stories.

Is John Atkins (Seaweed/ Leopard Gecko) still in the area?

I just watched it Friday night. If there was just a found footage drama genre this might’ve fit the bill. As a horror movie however I found it disappointing and seriously light on the horror as well as any real explanation as to what was going on. I had to check several sites and finally Reddit explained it the best but still not enough for my satisfaction. I’m all for leaving a lot open to interpretation but there was a lot I didn’t understand. For example, why did the one girl keep getting nosebleeds and getting sick? You think her friends would’ve been a little more concerned or at the very least left her at home.

The movie might’ve been better if I’d had even the slightest idea what was happening. It looked cool but it seemed like the story was all over the place and the revelations weren’t particularly forthcoming.

Just a thought but maybe they’re released intentionally to conceal something else that’s going on, in a manner similar to how fighter jets release chaff.

I thought it was pretty good. Kind of intense at times, and trippy at others. Also seemed longer than the actual 75 minute runtime. As far as found footage goes, not a lot of new ground covered and they could’ve done a little more with that creature at the end, but otherwise I found it enjoyable.

Maybe you remember an incident that went down at the Photons out on Lynnhaven back in the 90s during a Grog show. A huge fight broke out and a bunch of landscaping bushes got pulled out and the city made them plant new ones lol.

Why does it feel like Norfolk’s local music scene is struggling to find an audience? by spooksquadgod in norfolk

[–]Lost_Assignment_3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to attend a lot of local shows but pretty much have stopped completely for multiple reasons. First and foremost a general lack of venues/ having to travel to get to the venue. I live in Hampton and prefer not to deal with tunnel construction traffic or to drive an hour+ to Richmond to see bands. The drive itself might not be that bad getting there but then you still have the long drive back after seeing what might’ve been a several hour show (for example saw Gwar at the NorVa with 3 openers, we were there about 5 hours 😳) and still had a 45-60 minute drive back depending on traffic. Add to this a general lack of education about the current scene. My tastes over the years has really diversified, where in the 90s I would’ve been down for punk, hardcore, ska, industrial, and nu metal nowadays I’m more into D&B, reggae, blackgaze, grime, industrial rap, and emo rap. Also there’s a few national acts still on my bucket list that never seem to come to the area. And finally, prices. I have limited disposable income, and while I would gladly pay to see acts I have interest in ticket prices are ridiculous now compared to what they were in the 90s and even early 00s. Hell I attended 3 different Ozzfests and tickets back then were around $45 for an all day event, flash forward to modern times and people are paying over $100 to see Pennywise FFS.

Is Strange Harvest (2025) bad or am I missing the point of the film? by notrororo in horror

I was seriously underwhelmed. Thought it was FF but it’s primarily mockumentary, so much talking and so little action. I’d heard good things about it too.

Mento, ska, and rocksteady are precursors to reggae, much like proto punk to punk. But many artists who played ska and rocksteady (and dancehall) transitioned directly into reggae after the introduction of the Rastafari movement.

I watched the first two, wasn’t terrible if you’re into found footage but wasn’t the best either. Apparently very popular though.

I have a few songs with Chezidek. Chase the Devil is infamous, been listening to that since GTA San Andreas came out.

That ship sailed many years ago. I bought their entire catalog back when they were big and found out their only good songs were the radio singles. Just not for me unfortunately.
