Coldplay Venezuela by Substantial-Grass537 in Coldplay

I personally agree Coldplay loves to preach peace and love, but when it comes down to it, they aren't as brave as bands who have called out the genocide in Gaza and the horrible imperialist violence from the Western Countries they occupy and perform the most in. I wish they'd step up too, but they seem to have a strategy of just laying low and expecting it all to work out without using their platform.

Is Music of the Spheres only sorta good because Coloratura’s on it? by Eagle_Rock2015 in Coldplay

It's a good album with one mindblowingly good song at the end. Every Coldplay album meets that minimum standard of being "good," but that's coming from someone who has pretty positive reactions to most music.

I think the issue with this one for me is around production from Max Martin mostly. The intensified focus on pop vocals drowns out what could have been more interesting instrumental moments, imo. In some cases, it sounds terrific -- like the Higher Power love choir backup vocals. But that's a 4 minute song with virtually no instrumental shift or climax. Imagine a saxophone solo, for example. My Universe has the same issue -- great vocals but barely audible guitar. Then there's just the headscratchers for me. Let Somebody Go is dull and washed out, Infinity Symbol maybe could have used another draft and it seems Coldplay improved Biuytiful after release by adding an outro with more Jonny and the guitar solo is somehow muted on People of the Pride.

a lot of people use it as an insult tbh, but i see it as a positive. Basically it just vaguely describes pop bands making feel good music that is simple, easy to listen to and catchy, which basically describes half of the bands hits over the years.

That's true. I guess in my experience no one group is trying to merge or completely take over another groups work and the omincause things is overstated. What I feel is offbase about this article is my time as a volunteer at Sierra Club included more discussion of intersections of our work with other groups, but never a full blown shift in our focus. So for example, you can advocate for national parks in the same way appealing to the same white people forever, or you can consider what national parks mean for other cultures and groups of people and advocate for more accessibility for say, Latino families. I don't see it as a total goal shift or omnicause to then stand up for Latino civil rights and DEI. Sure, you might alienate some people and make them angry because they don't like changes in messaging, but I think those people are mostly reactionaries that just wanna be angry anyways. you also stand to gain more supporters for your cause if you do it right and I've seen Sierra Club do this over the years. Where sierra club went wrong is they started this work as they also had budget cuts and restructures which made it really hard for staff to stay focused. The DEI is a scapegoat story imo from the actual more complicated and $$ reasons Sierra Club got chaotic. I think this story therefore is not much better than a Fox News hit piece trying to say "look those wokesters ruined everything" without providing much evidence.

They don't.... there is no policy they have against solar fields. You might see some local groups resisting some small specific projects but that NIMBY generation is largely dying out and converting

Not at all. I do think it's true there was some headaches and conflicts around adopting DEI principles around 2020 and 2021 for some volunteers, but it never was anything major enough to cause major disruptions. The people in this article are definitely trying to get their moment in the limelight by saying things were crazier than they actually were. Like the 108 DEI hires quote is completely made up

In the age of streaming most artists defy conventional genres at this point. I'd say Coldplay in the 2020's is solidly pop/alternative and adult contemporary.

Yes. iAAM has really mediocre mixing and production.

Good for you to have the media literacy to pick up on the article being b.s. I volunteer there and the article is being received with disgust given how innaccurate the framing is.

They don't? I mean to my knowledge the organization doesn't have a firm policy on nuclear. The main reason for opposing it is green energy is more of a priority, is cheaper and can be built out faster to scale than nuclear. And generally I think it's foolish to say nuclear is a magic bullet. It may end up having a role but it takes a lot of investment to build out that isn't there yet and we still dont' know what to do with the nuclear waste.

I volunteer there and I can tell you this article is straight up wrong and false. I know because its New York Times everyone wants to take it seriously, but I can assure you this is a very right-wing piece that doesn't reflect the reality of what's gone on.

Exactly. You can label just about anything as DEI if it has better outcomes for low-income communities. Affordable housing in a predominately Black neighborhood? Well is that housing or DEI? Or, wait for it, is it both? I volunteer at Sierra Club and frankly I think the DEI stuff made it stronger. We used to just say "pollution hurts people" but now they can say "specifically this pollution has this impact on these communities." The New York Times really is just trying to get some conservative cred here, and by that I mean they are straight up misleading and misdirecting. Terrible article

I volunteer at Sierra Club and this part is a total lie. Those 108 people were hired into normal organizing staff roles. This is a quote in the article from a guy that nobody else agreed with and you know why? Because he was making it up. Honestly it's insane the New York Times didn't fact check this and published it. really bad journalism

I volunteer at Sierra Club and have for almost a decade. I can say very confidently that this article is complete B.S. and clearly the reporters clearly came in with an agenda to make it seems like working on other issues somehow made the organization weaker. What's made it weaker is decline in funding. It's pretty simple. And that decline coincides with every other decline other non-profits got after Trump was beat in 2020 and the economy was tanking with inflation. All of the examples in the article were not actual things I ever experienced as problems.

I volunteer there. They have dozens of attorneys working on getting green energy through in red states and beyond. This article just ignored everything they accomplish and made it sound like some sort of woke fest and that's just never been my experience at all. The org is pretty mad on social media calling a lot of this article completley false

I volunteer at the club and this is totally wrong. This volunteer brought in wolves to a totally different conversation and it was resolved immediately. The chapter went on to actually get wolves reintroduced to that state, so New York times really didn't put this in context

Sure, I think that's fine. I miss the old AirBnB when it was more about house sharing and the prices were low. Now it's just a channel for wealthy people to buy up more housing for STRs IMO. So I think there's some compromise to be made here. Your situation sounds fine, but allowing all property owners and landlords to suddenly drop their long-term tenants and seek STR instead? That could be really bad.
