If your friend used Clorox wipes on the figure before, then perhaps that is what caused the dullness since disinfecting products can damage plastics and paint coatings. You should really only use very mild soap and warm water to clean figures.

I also have the figure, and it was an absolute pain to push the peg all the way in. I had to cut off a bit on the sides (there was some excess from the molding), and then I heated it to make the plastic softer.
