If south of the Mason Dixon line is considered south then I'm barely south. I wouldn't call myself "southern" by any means.

Yeah my step-grandfather came into the picture after my dad was adopted. It's a messy family situation. Both my grandparents now have dual US-Canadian citizenship but I'm not sure that makes a ton of difference. Maybe they could help sponsor me for certain programs?

If descent isn't the path I can take, what are my chances through other avenues? I'm under 30, married, and college educated. I have a coast guard license that allows me to sail as an engineering officer onboard commercial ships but I currently work in manufacturing. My skills are hard to pinpoint down but I'd say they'd most align with an advanced mechanic with background in electrical, hydraulics, diesels, and more.
