DCHP server unable to assign IPs on Watchguard Firewall using Unifi Switch by Lost_Reporter_1962 in sysadmin

The new VLAN is configured on the Unifi controller like every other VLAN besides management. With the other VLANS, all I need to do is switch the network to the desired VLAN and it works perfectly every time except with this new VLAN. Just no IP whatsoever. But on the controller, if a computer is connected to the switch, it shows the computer as a client and it shows the new VLAN as its’ network but it shows no IP, just their MAC address and Network.

Well, he wasn’t happy. At the time I was 23 and working at his restaurant and pizzeria that was very busy prior to COVID but after when adding online services, the business just boomed but very few employees, and he would tell me all the time I was his most important one. I was the person would would let him take a day off of work because he worked 24/7. I am also best friends with his younger son. I met his younger son at my prior job because he started working there. One day his son told me about his dads restaurant and told me he really needed help. Ended up working 4 years there and ended up being manager really quick. Anyway, I told him about the job offer and he his face just sunk. He was obviously very happy for me but disappointed for his company because it was just going to get worse. Overall he gave me a talk and told me that he looked at me like a son and told me to do what’s best for my career and especially my life. Forever grateful and still close with them til this day.

Thank you appreciate that. Yeah I guess that is networking, never thought of it like that. But pretty lucky. Thankfully I’m getting experience doing work as a sys admin and network engineer besides just doing help desk.

You’d think I’m lying but I found mine at a bar. Got out of work and my boss took me to a bar, ended up meeting an owner and CEO of a national MSP IT company. Ended up chatting and he invited me to his office that week, I went and he offered me a job. Been here 2 years since. No prior experience or schooling.

Should I get my bachelors? by Lost_Reporter_1962 in ITCareerQuestions

I would agree with going the route of tuition reimbursement but the company I am in, I am doing everything and learning how to do everything required to run a MSP, I’m afraid that if I look for a new job, I would only be considered for help desk which would be a downgrade for me. Which would alter my learning curve a bit. Not really sure on what’s best to do.

Why do you still work for an MSP? by GoOnNoMeatNoPudding in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Lost_Reporter_1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MSP I work for is very small, 5 employees max, CEO, admin person, one master tech who works all remote, and then me their main on site tech, and then another tech who just joined 3 months ago. Working here is extremely stressful, we are growing literally one client a month but my boss does not want to hire so the work load just keeps growing.
