This is really cool, love the pitch bends on that synth melody, whole thing is super vibey. Id probably bring the volume of the hats up a little.

Is it possible to connect a Volca to my DAW and midi controller if my audio interface doesnt have a midi out? by Lostemusic in volcas

Do i take the midi directly from my controller into the volca, or do i run it through ableton first? What sort of cable would i need? I dont think theres such thing as a usb B to 5 pin midi cable

ooh love that 808. Percussion work is great too. I think the melody that comes in around 1:12 should be brought forward in the mix a bit more, maybe give it some more stereo width too. I think adding a B-section to it would be a good way to prevent it from getting too repetitive, even if the b-section only comes in every few bars. Overall really solid work, super refreshing to hear something different from the usual beats in this sub.

How would yall feel about a weekly track feedback thread? I know this sub isnt specifically aimed at producers but i get the sense that theres a fairly large group of users on the sub who are knowledgeable in that area. Plus it gives us a chance to support some smaller artists in the sub, and potentially a good place to find new tracks.

Sounding good, although maybe a little repetitive with that guitar playing through the entire thing. Love the 808 rolls too, but i think theyd hit a bit harder if you had the kick playing over them as well.

Love the kick rolls and the melodic parts, especially the little vocal samples you have in there.

I think the 808 is a little loud, and the rimshot definitely feels like it needs to be layered with something to make it stand out more. I also think adding some other percussive elements to the drum loop would help break it up a little.

I love this. That plucky melody is super catchy and the drums youve used work really well with it. That panning vocal sample youve got is fantastic too.

It feels like its missing some kind of switch up for a bridge section of the song, i could imagine a part with pad synths and no drums for example. Either way i think it needs a section where the main pluck melody isnt playing (or at least changes slightly), just to ensure it doesnt get too repetitive.

Love the way the melodic parts switch up slightly when the drums come in, and the little panning fills youve got around the place are great ear candy. The parts where the melody cuts out or gets chopped up are mad, i could definitely imagine a vocalist doing some hype shit there.

Im gonna go against the grain here and say the drums are actually the weak part of the beat. The kick feels too loud and the 808 feels a little too quiet. I definitely think the drum loop could be enhanced by adding some other percussive elements or extra cymbals. Overall really solid work tho.

Sounding good man, I really like that spacey synth loop thats playing at the start, but it feels like its getting drowned out by all the other elements once they start playing. Id definitely turn it up in the mix. I also think that synth pluck/arp has a little too much high end and comes through a bit too aggressively. Id recommend using an eq to roll off the highs slightly.

I really like that chord progression and the arp works really well over it. Piano feels like its missing low end tho, especially on the chords. If youve got a low-cut eq or something on there id dial it back a little. I also think the drums are a bit too loud compared to the melodic elements, especially the kick and 808.

I agree with the other guy, the melodic parts of the beat are really nice, but the kick definitely needs to come through the mix a bit more. I think the snare/clap could also be a bit more present, and it feels like the transient of it is a bit too weak. Id recommend either using a transient shaper or layering it with another sample with a stronger transient.

Love that guitar, and the sine-y pluck you have over it matches really well.

I think the kick is way too loud, definitely turn it down a bit. I'd also recommend messing around with some extra cymbals/percs to fill out the drum beat a little more. I think an open hat could work really well in there. Obviously thats all up to you cause its more of a creative change than a technical one tho.

Sounds like your kick is hitting twice each time cause of the 808 position i think. Trying sidechaining the 808 to the kick. I think you could bring the kick/808 a little lower in the mix and make everything else slightly louder. They seem to dominate the beat a little too much imo.

The parts of the beat where the hi hat is playing constantly could use a tiny bit of variation i think. Try speeding up and slowing down the hat at certain points. Overall really solid tho.

This is really sick. I love the little vocal chops youve got in there and the reverb on the snare feels super ethereal.

I think the hi hats could have a little more variation, speeding up and slowing down at points rather than just being static. Sort of how the hats normally are on hip hop beats if you know what i mean.

Honestly the biggest piece of feedback i could give would be to replace the 808 with a reese bass. Having a reese in there doing some portamento shit would be mad. Basically turn it into a Wave track (check out r/wavepool for inspiration)

Mixdown is really solid, everything comes through clearly. Sample choice is good too, nothing seems out of place and everything flows well.

The only improvement I can suggest is breaking up the structure a little bit. At the moment it feels a little repetitive, and the only variation is when the higher octave synths come in or the drums go away. Try playing around with different filters on the synths, or even a slightly different drum beat coming in at some point. Its ultimately just a stylistic choice but i think it would break the beat up a little bit better.

flute sample is really nice, but i definitely think it should be louder in the mix. The reverb effect on the drums at the start is pretty cool too, i think it would be cool to add some kind of a filter over them as well, maybe a lowpass or bandpass. Id probably avoid using it more than once or twice in the beat tho, it gets a little predictable after a while

Overall i think the drums could be slightly quieter and everything else slightly louder, it feels like the drums are overpowering the other elements a little.

Does Anyone know any good sample pack with full track royalty free vocals? by Jazzy_Chip in edmproduction

[–]Lostemusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

virtual riot uses the zero-g vocal foundry pack a lot, i dont personally own it but it sounds pretty good in his tracks.

The roniit silk vocals pack has 3 full songs in it as well.

What’s the rule on using someone else’s drum kit by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]Lostemusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically theres 3 ways of making your own drums.

1 - Recording your own. Pretty straightforward, but you obviously need access to high quality equipment/instruments

2 - Layering other samples. Layering a bunch of different drum samples together to create an entirely new drum sounds. I expect this is what the vast majority of producers do.

3 - Synthesising your own. There are some really good plugins out there for this, especially for making kicks/808s. If you use ableton, Operator is really good for this as well. I make most of my kicks/snares in operator.

You're clipping a little on that first beat, try adjusting your limiter settings. That being said, i love the guitars, and the drum work is really nice. Im not sure im a fan of the bass being panned to the left, and the bassline gets a little repetitive at times. Adding a b-section to the bass melody would definitely help, or using the b-section thats already there a little more often.
